Chris Christie calls for unlimited campaign donations with 48-hour reporting period

FRANKLIN — Gov. Chris Christie today said there should be no limits on how much money people can donate to political campaigns.

The Republican governor and potential 2016 presidential candidate called such rules "ridiculous." Instead, he suggested that the law allow for unlimited donations, followed by a 48-hour period in which they must disclose their contributions.

"If somebody wants to write me a $100,000 check to my campaign, great," Christie told the crowd at a town hall meeting in the Somerset section of Franklin Township. "Forty-eight hours later, everybody who has access to the internet will know that Mr. Smith gave the $100,000."

"You are never going to keep money out of politics," he added. "None of these laws change that. So let's add transparency to it."
