Happy Tax Day. Seriously. Thanks to Edie Windsor & the Supremes :)

I filed for one of two refunds of the Same Gender Marriage Tax Penalty I've been subjected to for 33 years.

After fighting with my tax software - it works well for creating initial returns; not so well for amending them - here's the verdict:

$3,600 (roughly) in refunds coming my way. $2,900 in a tax credits which our lopsided income made us ineligible for - and the rest pure tax rate surcharge for being viewed as two singles rather than a married couple.

Too bad we can't go back the full length of our 33 year marriage.

Guess that's motivation to get the 2011 amendment filed...it will make the massive pay cut I took this fall when I switched jobs a little less painful.
