badass president. He has let me down, he has encouraged me beyond belief. But he has used the executive branch of our government to do things I never would have thought possible during the darkest days of GWB. And his signature legislative acomplishment is already making a difference in the lives of people I love.
And I break my Lenten DU abstintion (again).!

(15,438 posts)I don't expect perfection from this president nor that he works three times harder than his White predecessors in order for him to gain my respect. I base my respect of him as I would any other president before him, regardless of skin color and the expectations required of him as just one co-equal branch of our government, and that's why I believe he's one helluva bad-ass president.
Were he White, I'm certain that all his achievements would have put him at the top of the list of presidents who have done incredible things for the American people and our reputation around the world. Unfortunately for him, he didn't inherit his mother's coloring and is therefore required to submit to the American guidelines put upon Black people that they have to work three times as hard as a White person in order to gain the same respect.

(19,564 posts)I stole the sig from an old EDS super bowl commercial.
I was actually torn between my current sig line and "Anybody can herd cattle. Holding together 10,000 half-wild shorthairs, now that's another matter altogether."
The idiom Herding Cats is how I've had organizing Democrats described to me on several occasions. From experience I've come to understand the wisdom of that particular application of the idiom.
I love your username as well! Brer Cat gets too little recognition for his part in many a folk tales.
Seeing your moniker reminded me of this particular folktale:
Brer Rat fell into a barrel of whiskey one day, and couldn't get out; so he cries to Brer Cat and says, "Brer Cat, if you take me out of this barrel, when I dry I'll let you eat me.
"All right!" says Brer Cat. So, Brer Cat took Brer Rat out of the barrel of whiskey and placed him in the sun so he would dry. Meantime Brer Rat was looking for some hole that me might run into. Finally he saw one and with dashed off to hide himself.
Then Brer Cat says, "Oh, no! That's not fair, Brer Rat, we had a deal!"
"What's not fair?" says Brer Rat.
"You said if I took you out of the barrel of whiskey you'd let me eat you when your dried!" exclaimed Brer Cat.
"A man's liable to say anything when he's in liquor." replied Brer Rat.

(90,708 posts)So you kinda gave up DU for Lent, did you? I'm smiling at that, but it's actually a pretty thoughtful choice. Hope Holy Week is going well for you and yours -- Happy Easter on Sunday.
