That may be the unfuniest POS I've ever seen. Most of America disagrees, it seems.

Shows like Firefly, Sarah Conner Chronicles, King of the Hill, Flight of the Conchords, and more get cancelled, yet that turd remains.

Watch it without the audience laughter sometime.

It's kind of like if someone made blackface for geeks. Geekface?

Community relies on developed characters; Big Bang relies on stereotypes. Community is awesome.

While their work-related issues and their intellectual curiosity are pretty accurate, their private behavior is over-the-top.

Tune the magnitudes and numbers of their obsessions with videogames, comics, toys, sci-fi, fantasy and cos-play down to "slightly ridiculous" and you get a more accurate picture.
Those are typical hobbies of a physicist, but not all of them at the same time and not to that extent as depicted in BBT.

(I know physicists who spread their private interests and talents over many, many fields. They always overextend themselves and sooner or later they fail in one of the fields. And yes, I know a guy who had to quit studying physics because he couldn't keep his curiosity under control and focus on the topic that he was supposed to study.)

And btw, it's a bit weird that they don't listen to music in their spare time. There are archetypes as well:
- Mathematicists prefer Heavy Metal, Darkwave and the likes.
- Physicists prefer Classic Rock, for example 80s-style.
- The closer the profession goes towards business, the more the preference shifts towards disco- and pop-music.

Oh, and I'm with the 'love it' crowd. I think it's mostly because I like ensemble comedy when the chemistry between the actors works. The jokes dont have to be overly clever or too pretentious.

All of which I watched on weekend binges.

It took me a while to realize just how shallow and vapid the show really is. And unlike a show that treats nerds/geeks with humor and love ("Chuck," for instance, or "Community&quot , this show has no love for twenty sided dice or a years-long running debate of Superman vs. The Death Star (which in my actual life is approaching its third year).

Bernadette is perfect in the show. She was a great addition that totally upped the dynamic a bit in so many ways, especially her expressions.

Yes, the show is over the top in some things. But that's what the majority of sitcoms do. and thankfully there are shows for everyone. I can't stand Community for example but I keep hoping it has a good life for its fans. BBT for a lot of people is just more accessible.

Every time I come across a repeat, I can't help but to watch, at least past the first season. I like it more when we get the full ensemble cast that we have now.

and even though I knew that Amy was going to get a Tiara from Sheldon, when she did it was still funny as hell.

It has to be the acting. Some of it seems over the top the first time you see it, but on reruns it is what carries the joke.

It really is the funniest show on TV (IMO). I missed the first couple of seasons because I was a 30 Rock fan and they were on at the same time. Of course I have seen them all several times now, as you have. Sometimes I can't believe that I ignored the show for that long.

On a side note, I love the episode where Amy points out the problem with "Raiders of the Lost Ark". It is just so funny to watch them all struggle with the obvious. The guys need to completely change their opinion of the movie. The entire premise is so clever that it carries the story along by itself.

however at its heart its still the standard fare american sitcom. The catchphrase humour, the vehicular characters that are basically an oubliette of conveniently placed quirks, essentially grotesques really. Its all there.

Heres my sitcom proposal. Couple lives in a new York brownstone apartment. Check. She's fat, he likes paperclips. Check. Hilarity does not ensue. But money does. There that's 45 seconds work. PDF invoice enclosed.

If you have the time check out Friday night dinner. British sitcom, shows how well the format can be done.

If I wanted to watch something about socially awkward nerds, I'd look at my own life. Besides, I can't stand Sheldon. Who in the hell would be friends with someone like that IRL? And that audience laughter!

No. Anything Chuck Lorre touches turns to shit (see: "Two and a Half Men&quot .

by definition, funny. Perhaps unfunny to you, but clearly funny to others -- I read recently that it's the most watched television show in the world now, popular all across Europe and South America.

Is it broad humor? Sure. Is it fairly predictable humor? Absolutely. Is it funny? Without a doubt; but not for you, and that's cool too.
