(14,691 posts)This dog, who was eventually named "Philly", was hit by a car and left on the side of the road. Finding the dog in bad shape, three LAPD officers decided to try and rescue him despite the dog's slim chances of survival.

(34,393 posts)had been hit by a car. He had been left on the street to die for over 5 hours & he couldn't move except for a wagging tail. His owners didn't want to bother with him, so they had them sign their rights to him away. Then the cops told a vet to do whatever it took. The pup has a shattered leg & other injuries, but he is up & walking. They named him Philly & has his own Facebook page. The cops are trying to raise funds because the bill is $10,000 and counting. He is NOT up for adoption, lol. He has 3 moms already!

It was a truly horrendous situation: A dog hit by car was left on a sidewalk for hours while people walked by ignoring him and thinking he was dead.
Lucky for the dog named "Philly," three LAPD officers came by and saved his life. He is now a part of one of the officers' family.
Here's what happened: The officers were on their way to southeast police station when they saw the sad looking, crumpled brown pit bull on the side of the road at 108th and Central. When they tried to give him water, they were told by residents the animal had been there for over five hours. Everyone had assumed he was dead after being hit by a car.
They put the barely moving (except for a wagging, grateful tail) in the car and took him to the vet where they found out he'd need surgery, and that he was actually microchipped. Thinking the owners must be looking for him, they quickly went to their home, to explain the situation.
