Colorado husband shot wife in the head after eating pot, say police

LOS ANGELES — A mother-of-three was shot dead by her husband whom police believe had taken cannabis in Colorado, the first U.S. state where the drug is legal for recreational use.

Kristine Kirk, 44, dialled 911 and told the emergency dispatcher her husband Richard, 47, was hallucinating, talking about “the end of the world”, and scaring their young children after eating an edible form of the drug.

...

His brother, Shane, told local television news outlets that he was “shocked” that Kirk would be using cannabis.

“I’m wondering, this marijuana, wherever he got it from... I didn’t know marijuana could do this,” he said.

“He lives for his family and that’s why this is so out of left field. He’s a great, hard-working father and husband. All he did was work for his kids.”

heady stuff.

It was interesting to see how Talbot's book really framed DiFi as the sort of glue which held the city together after all the other shit went down... she comes off fairly well in his portrayal..

Suffice it to say, I never really thought of her that way.

...and yes, DiFi did great.

Later, as mayor, she okayed a $10M renovation of Candlestick Park to make it earthquake-proof -- something that paid off big time when the Loma Prieta quake came along -- if you recall, the stadium was full for the 3rd (I think) game of the World Series between the Giants and the Athletics. So she did great there as well.

Too bad she's such a panderer to wealth and the MIC these days. I certainly no longer think of her that way either.

The dude is no angel. As the article also notes:

Kirk had been arrested once before for careless driving, and driving under the influence, in 2000. In 1993, he was charged with assault in Texas but the charge was dropped. Police had never been called to the home before.

Since legalization of the drug there has been controversy in Colorado over labelling of candy and chocolates that contain cannabis. Some have been found to be weaker than advertised, but others have been stronger.

Last month, Levy Thamba, a Congolese engineering student, jumped to his death from a fourth-floor hotel balcony in Denver after eating cannabis-infused biscuits.

And regardless, if there wasn't a gun in the house, she would have been fine. Seems this story is missing the point about what was the key danger in that house.

You can defend yourself against a knife. A bullet, not so much. It is a lot harder to drive a knife into a person's skull and takes a lot longer. He was able to kill her with just one bullet to her head. Didn't have to struggle with her and could claim it was a momentary delusion. But anyone who has smoked pot knows it doesn't make you murderous or even aggressive. His defense attorney will probably make sure there are no pot smokers on his jury.

There are a couple other hints in the story that he wasn't exactly in love with his wife. It notes on Valentine's Day he posted a picture of his kids on facebook as the "loves of his life" --not his wife. As he sat in court after his arrest, his demeanor was described as "stoic." If you just came out of what was supposed to be a drug-induced hallucination and just learned you had killed the woman you love, you would not be "stoic."

Some folks do the same with guns, computer games, they did with D&D for a spell, violent movies, books, etc.

The tactic seems to be employed by most all sides of the political spectrum - take the few and showcase them to taint the many.

Sorry...couldn't help it...it's a version of an old joke about a doctor who tells a patient who can't get out of bed in the morning that he, the doc, feels the same way. He started having sex with his wife and he was better able to face the day. The patient calls a month later and tells the doc that he was absolutely right...and BTW, the doc has a BEAUTIFUL house!

She stabbed him all over the place, including in the head, but obviously did not penetrate his skull since he was bloodied but survived.

This guy killed his wife with just one bullet to the head.

Lesson: keep your pot and board games, get rid of your gun.

Fri Apr 18, 2014, 09:29 AM

The most scared I've ever been in my life was after an early evening decision to make chocolate chip cookies out of pot. Three of us ate them, felt nothing for two hours, and - suddenly - in the middle of a party all started losing our minds. I ended up laying on a floor yelling that I think I needed a doctor, because I was convinced I was having a heart attack or stroke or something.

I actually remember having this thought, "My parents are going to get a call that their son died of a drug overdose. Which is embarrassing for them. And then everyone is going to find out I OD'ed on marijuana. Which is embarrassing for me."

I was probably in no danger of OD'ing, but I was completely out of mind. I had smoked dozens of times before that and never had any problems. But ingesting it differently screwed with me.

That's the point: eating pot may not always be the pest idea because it's a lot harder to regulate how it impacts you.

(There was a rather amusing part of that night. One of my friends was diabetic. And ten minutes after we all lost our minds at the party, he decides that he needs some insulin. How he made this decision is beyond me, but - hey - he's still alive and is a college professor so good for him. We tell the third friend and decide to go out on the back porch of the house we are in to - I dunno - support the insulin injecting guy or something. When we get out there, we are alone. He opens his little kit and starts injecting himself. My other friend and I are probably talking in tongues while this is going on. In the middle of this, two lovely sorority-ish looking young ladies walk out onto the porch, see two maniacs with seriously bloodshot eyes babbling nonsense while a third maniac is sticking a needle into himself. They turn and more or less sprint out of the party. Ah....good times. I go to bed at 10 PM on Saturdays now).
