advice to democrats: don't say 'recovery'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don't talk about the economic recovery. It's a political loser.

So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn't convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face."

In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion that the Obama administration has had six years to get the economy moving and its policies haven't worked.

Coincidentally or not, Democrats have largely shelved the "R" word.

and I don't play one on teevee, but I am not convinced that 'recovery' should never be heard. IMO it's a worthwhile topic for comparison with the dismal Boosh years. In addition, 'recovery' should always be prefaced with 'fragile,' just before launching into a diatribe about how repugs in Congress are attempting to derail that recovery.

since political campaigns are among the most data and focus group driven of all advertising.

The 3rd rule of marketing is "Listen to the customer and then speak back to them with the phrases they just used." So if the customer doesn't say recovery then the candidate should not say it.

The 'recovery' has bypassed most Americans. With 90+% of the wealth gains going to the top few percent, and most people actually losing wealth over the course of the 'recovery', it's a political loser for those who want to claim it exists in any real sense for most of us.

For Jamie Dimon and other Wall Street crooks and banksters, they've seen a recovery.
For 99% of America, not so much.

You don't talk about a 'recovery' when a large percentage of your voters haven't experienced one. And considering our party no longer seems to care, and has no plan for the folks crippled and left for dead by this Depression, it's probably better if Democratic party politicians don't talk about the economy at all.
