Alaska, you're safe: Putin jokes Alaska is too "cold" to be annexed

http://news.yahoo.com/ex-russian-alaska-too-cold-annex-putin-jokes-134214391.html

In a patriotic fervour, Russians are asking President Vladimir Putin to bring back the US state of Alaska, sold off to the United States in Tsarist times. Putin's answer? It's too cold.

During Putin's annual marathon phone-in session Thursday, when Russians pose questions to the Russian leader, a pensioner asked him to possibly follow the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine with the taking of Alaska.

"Faina Ivanovna, dear, why do you need Alaska?" Putin asked the pensioner.

"We have a northern country -- 70 percent of our territory are in the north and the far north," he noted.

"Alaska is cold too," he said. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."

Warm weather blanketing Alaska for days now has shattered records, turned plants green and changed the way some people live.

The temperature hit 62 degrees at Port Alsworth, on Lake Clark, on Monday, tying the highest January temperature ever recorded in the state, the National Weather Service reported.

Nome peaked at 51 degrees, topping the city's warmest January with a temperature typical of early June, forecasters said.

In Anchorage, snow continued melting Tuesday in the latest of 15 consecutive days with temperatures at 32 degrees or above. As of Monday, it was the city's fourth warmest January ever recorded.

Clearly 'The Grifter' doesn't spend a lot of time in Alaska these days.

He is smart enough to know that getting for Russia 663,300 square miles and Alaskan mineral resources but including Sarah Palin is a bad deal.
