6 signs that you’re a liberal who is out of touch with reality (from Facebook)

I guy I served with in the Army posted this on Facebook. Fish in a barrel on this one but I thought you might enjoy it.

1. You think that George W. Bush caused the recent recession
2. You get your news from Jon Stewart
3. You watch MSNBC
4. You’re still concerned about institutional racism
A black man is in the White House and Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire. Really, what are you worried about?
5. You think that raising taxes improves the economy
6. You’re surprised that regulations on insurance companies are causing them to raise their premiums

I have been on DU for 12+ years which provides me with window to the on-line liberal world and I don't think I have EVER heard #5. Infusing money into the economy via government spending sure but not simply taxation itself.

If you'd been told 50 times a day how lowering taxes improves the economy-a conserve talking point since, say, Reagan at least-you would believe the opposite is also true.

As with most RW bullshit, they tend to be projections of what they think "liberals" believe, any objective relationship to reality is optional, at best.

There were two recessions under Bush. March 2001 - November 2001 AND December 2007 - June 2009. Now one could make an argument that no one person can cause a recession, even if that person is the President of the United States. But if you happen to be the President when the economy tanks, then it happened on your watch and you take the blame.

When it comes to real economic grown by presidential term, growth under Bush was only about half of the growth under Clinton. One would have to be truly delusional to believe that the economy was booming during the Shrub years - I don't care what party you're from.

When taxes are low, business owners bank the profits. When taxes are high, they reinvest for future growth instead.

And the lifeblood of the charity community is tax avoidance.

Cover ANYONE!

Fuck sick, poor people with no insurance. Right? The rest of us shouldn't have to PAY FOR THEM!!!

They should do what sick poor people are supposed to do, namely avoid any and all preventative care because they can't pay for it... and then when they get really sick, they can go to the emergency room! ...at which point..

Uh, yeah, the rest of us will have to pay for them anyway.

Mentioning two black people you know who have made it to the top doesn't just magical make some 300-400 years of hateful, dark history and the scars it's left behind disappear! What about the ones who were not so lucky? As for the institutional part or racism, imagine building a ship and having the same captain and crew for 25 years, then suddenly you all come across another sailor who is much better at his job than your current captain. You make him your new captain, but everything else stays the same. Same ship, same crew, same seas, same passengers, same cargo.

How much do you really think is going to change?

So yes, the president is black, but he is still in charge of a system that is biased against PoC.

And hell yeah GWB caused the recession! I'm almost sure that shit was planned. They wanted to get as much money as they could before it all came tumbling down and everyone found out they were lairs. As for MSNBC, I watch it sometimes, but there are better liberal news sources around.

since no one subscribes to all 6 of these points, the person who wrote this is basically proving that none of us liberals are out of touch with reality.

1. No, high oil prices and financial deregulation caused the recession (higher oil prices mean people having to decide between paying the mortgage and putting gas in the tank to get to work and put food on the table; a lot of people defaulted. Mortgage-backed securities were a bad idea, as was letting commercial banks act as investment banks.)
2. I think Jon Stewart is kind of a smug asshole, honestly.
3. I get my news by reading newspapers and magazines (online), and don't watch TV news at all.
4. 12% of the US population is black. There are seven times as many blacks as whites, per capita, in prison (representing 45% of the prison population). Blacks are 10 times more likely to be arrested for drug offences despite five times more whites using drugs. So you're damned right I'm concerned about institutional racism.
5. I think raising government spending through infrastructure investment improves the economy by creating jobs.
6. I'm not surprised at all that requirements for not denying coverage of pre-existing conditions lead to a rise in premiums. What I'm surprised about is that anyone thinks that subsidising for-profit insurance companies is the way forward to ensuring that everyone has healthcare.
