(21,153 posts)I do lunch duty most of the time and those who are cared for kids regardless of race are obvious. Hunger is a big issue with some of te kids. The ones who have rough lives are the ones who do poorly in school and have behavior issues. Those wanting to privatize education only want to make profits and the outcomes are the same as a good public school with parent participation.

(3,284 posts)And many people knew it 30 years ago when manufactured propaganda like America At Risk
was in full, fresh circulation, stoking public resentment of their schools for the future exploitation we see now.
But I fear it is kind of like climate change--It may be too late to reverse the damage
without massive action NOW. And I do not see such action, although, more people
are waking up to the horror of what is happening.
Too little, too late, I'm afraid.
The rightwingers finally pulled it off.
And in many cases, the Democrats helped.
Race-To-The-Top, anyone?

(403 posts)As a teacher I can pick out those kids who are going to stuggle in the first 15 minutes of the first day I have them in my classroom.
The stack of paper work should be higher...
The box for holding the own money spent by the teacher a little bigger...
And, the scornful look on the drive by educator wanna be as evil as they really are when they do their drive by lootings...
