A deputy who was driving a patrol vehicle about 3:50 a.m. near the intersection 10th Street East and Avenue R (map) saw that an SUV had crashed into an apartment building in the 1000 block of East Avenue R, said Lt. Ken Wright of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department.
Additional deputies responded and were alerted by residents that a female occupant had been sleeping inside the room into which the vehicle had become embedded.
The deputies attempted to enter the building by pulling away a damaged wall but were unable to gain full access, Wright said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the location and entered the apartment, where they found a 16-year-old girl who had been fatally injured, according to authorities.

(21,506 posts)My condolences to the girls family but is it really necessary to post every single tragedy reported in the news?

The Straight Story
(48,121 posts)Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. He was booked for vehicular manslaughter. Rodriguez has been released on $100,000 bail.
Now as to your reply:
Tragedies get reported because they are just that - something out of the normal.
Drinking and driving is a problem in this country and keeping people aware of what can, and does, happen may end up giving folks something to think about next time they down a few.
No, I don't think we should ban houses, cars, drinking, or remove all parking lots at bars so that people can't go get a drink and then drive. Tragedies can bring awareness without the need to legislate and create new feel good laws.
I don't post half of what I come across on my twitter account (which is heavily skewed towards news and a few shows I like). I used to spend a lot of time in that part of California and have lost friends to car accidents (and other things like my friend who was robbed and shot to death - surely to some just another tragedy in the news that day).
Some stories just stand out to me as an individual and I post them. Hide them if you want, ignore them, etc. I am fine with that. But I will post what interests me so long as I am on here and a story like this sticks out to me as I have a daughter myself close to that age who doesn't live too far from that area (far enough though) and so, unlike some similar news stories, it caught my eye.

(2,016 posts)so chill the fuck out.
It's sad, it's tragic, it's nothing DU folks from elsewhere can respond to.
It just sucks. Chill the fuck out, you freakazoids.
It hurts.. for those us are still have a heartbeat. Jeez, STFU. Could have happened to YOU, could have happened to ME. A random event, brought about by someone who chose to drink and drive.
If you drink, don't drive. Save your outrage. It just sucks, because someone who chose to drink, chose to drive. And that is BAD.
So, STFU.
With respect.
