Jeb Bush's Shady Business Endeavors Under Scrutiny!

The path from public service to private riches is well trodden by politicians of both parties. But, even by that measure, Mr. Bush took an aggressive and expansive approach to making money.

Looks like he made vast piles of money just to lend his name to various shady enterprises. It's eye-opening that he felt poor with a net worth of $1.3 million. I guess that in his circles, that's poverty.

It's ultimate conclusion seems to be that Jeb has done nothing wrong and has never been all that rich but that if he seriously means to run for president he'll have to dismantle the business empire he's worked so hard to put together and that might be too much of a sacrifice for him.

In fact, there are far more questionable aspects to Jeb's career, going back to his relationships with the Miami Cubans in the 1980s. Here are three articles from 1992, 1998, and 2002.

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/1992/09/bush-family-value

After graduating from Texas University, Jeb Bush served a short apprenticeship at the Venezuelan branch of Texas Commerce Bank in Caracas before settling in Miami, in 1980, to work on his father's unsuccessful primary bid against Ronald Reagan. Campaigning for Dad was hardly a paying job. But Jeb was about to learn that being one of George Bush's sons means never having to circulate a résumé.

In the next few years, financial support flowed to Jeb through Miami's right-wing Cuban community. Republican party politics and a series of business scandals -- including Medicaid fraud and shady S&L deals -- were inextricably intertwined. A former federal prosecutor told MJ that, when he looked into Jeb's lucrative business dealings with a now-fugitive Cuban, he considered two possibilities -- Jeb was either crooked or stupid. At the time, he concluded Jeb was merely stupid.

What exactly does Jeb Bush do for a living? The 45-year-old Republican nominee for governor has hawked luxury condos in South Florida, sold industrial sites for IBM, made bank loans in Venezuela and marketed giant water pumps in Nigeria. He has even tried to sell imported shoes to Wal-Mart.

His corporate ties are a web of more than two dozen companies, including obscure, privately held ventures called Uno, Uno Dos and Oriental Trading, and bigger public companies such as SunTrust, Anchor Glass, Ideon and American Heritage Life Insurance.

Bush's network is far-reaching and lucrative. The 27-year-old who arrived in Miami in 1980 so broke that he used his American Express card to pay his MasterCard bill is now worth $2.4-million.

The son of former President George Bush has followed the family's patrician play book: Hurry up and get rich, then go into public service.

The president's younger brother was also on the payroll in the 80s of the prominent Cuban exile Miguel Recarey, who had earlier assisted the CIA in attempts to assassinate President Castro.

Recarey, who ran International Medical Centres (IMC), employed Jeb Bush as a real estate consultant and paid him a $75,000 fee for finding the company a new location, although the move never took place, which raised questions at the time. Jeb Bush did, however, lobby the Reagan/Bush administration vigorously and successfully on behalf of Recarey and IMC. "I want to be very wealthy," Jeb Bush told the Miami News when questioned during that period.

In 1985, Jeb Bush acted as a conduit on behalf of supporters of the Nicaraguan contras with his father, then the vice-president, and helped arrange for IMC to provide free medical treatment for the contras.

Recarey was later charged with massive medicare fraud but fled the US before his trial and is now a fugitive.

The Jeb Crow Shrub shady business is nothing new. It’s in the B.F.E.E. (BUSH Family Evil Empire) DNA – old BUSHes financed HITLER; Neil fleeced us with his S&L schemes; Shrub did bidness in drugs, flunking oil, footsie with fatcats; Jeb Crow Shrub used to board private planes with his Cuban partners and suitcases of cash, plus MediCARE scams. And Poppy said to reporters, “My boys have a RIGHT TO MAKE A LIVING!!!!!!!” So is this Stage 2 of his NOT RUNNING (1st being the “act of love”)?!

Activities of Bush family members never do well under scrutiny. Just ask Prescott Bush and Poopy Poppy Bush. Or Neil Bush. Or, you know who Bush.

BTW, speaking of Mr. Bill and the Bush family-- and I have nothing in particular against him (so far)---Billy Bush (of Access Hollywood) is one of those Bush's. I had never given his last name a thought. I mention it only because I found out recently and was stunned, and because the way that I started this post reminded me.

Bush was born William Hall Bush in Manhattan, New York,[2] the son of Josephine (née Bradley) and Jonathan Bush. His father is the younger brother of the 41st President of the United States George H. W. Bush, making Billy the nephew of George H. W. Bush and cousin of the 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush

Another grandson of Prescott. Was I the last DUer to know that?
