The 2016 Presidential Campaign Has NOT Begun!

The 2014 Congressional, state legislative and local office campaign, however, HAS begun. Each of us can participate in making the 2014 election a memorable one, returning control of Congress to Democrats and changing the state legislatures in our states.

I suggest we focus on the 2014 elections, district-by-district. 2016 will come soon enough, and we can begin working on that immediately after the November, 2014 elections. For now, though, there's already an election looming on the horizon. Let's not forget that. Instead, lets:

There are exactly zero announced candidates for the 2016 election. Right now, it's a waste of time and energy to debate candidate choices. There are, however many, many announced candidates for the 2014 election, and primaries are coming up soon.

GOTV 2014!

Nor about announced candidates, but make no mistake, the campaigning, not to mention speculation, started right after 2012. For both parties, although the GOP is worse.

Why can't they participate in their local elections and come to DU and post and enjoy themselves talking about the issues they want to talk about? 2014 or 2016

spent by focusing on the 2014 election. You see, I'm free to say that here, too. You will also do as you please, which may include ignoring my suggestion. You may have missed the words "I suggest" in my post. Or perhaps you misinterpreted them, although I can't see how.

Planning to win in 2016 now is (kinda) like an NFL team planning and practicing to win the Super Bowl before they play the preseason games.

If we lose the senate and fail to regain the house, it won't matter which of our hopefuls may become president on Jan 20, 2017.

Planning for 2016 now in an NFL comparison is like making sure you have the right team building towards that goal. You have to pay attention to all points. Not just one. Decades ago? Sure, you could do it that way. These days, you have to play long and short game for it. If you're focused entirely on the next battle with no thoughts to beyond, you've already lost the war.

2016 election the rethugs will have more gerrymandering and more voter suppression laws in place to make it impossible to win in 2016.

I would think that any hopeful for 2016 would be able to see this. I especially hope that Hillary will tell the union group that endorsed her and said they are going to set out the 2014 elections to get with it. The best thing we can so for 2016 is win as much as we can in 2014. GOTV.

won't be done again until after the 2020 census. We lost the redistricting battle in 2010. The Republicans who gained control of state legislatures that year set the district boundaries before the 2012 election. They won't be changed until 2021. Voter suppression laws, of course, are another matter entirely.

And can see both as priorities that are tied together?

Most people multi task in their lives and work. And can do so in this way as well. We can't all be focused 100% of the time on every subject towards the midterms. We can talk about both. Telling folks to focus only on that is misguided.

What I write is my opinion and represents a suggestion, not an order. The key words in my post are "I suggest..."

I'm amazed that anyone thinks I can order anyone to do anything.

I'm sure you will do as you see fit.

While at the same time complaining (and rightfully so) about the problems we face. Time to put our money where our mouths are. If we want problems to be solved, the best thing to do right now is work for this November.

If you don't care about that, then I humbly suggest you stop talking about the problems.

We'll hear about how we can multi-task but that's a canard. We need to focus, focus, focus!!!

Nothing is more important, in my opinion, in 2014 than getting out the Democratic vote. If we fail in that, 2016 is going to be a disaster, along with the two years leading up to the 2016 election.
