In 1992 Former Cincinnati Red's owner was banned for a year for racist remarks

She not only called Dave Parker and Eric Davis 'million dollar *******' but she also felt:

that Adolf Hitler was initially good for Germany and did not understand how the epithet "Jap" could be offensive.

I'm expecting the same equal treatment for that owner of the LA Clippers. Just barring him from playoff games is not enough - he should be barred for a full season.

Or better yet his wife should sue him for divorce and ask for ownership of the LA Clippers as part of the divorce settlement. Sterling does not deserve to make one cent of profit off that team. Not only is he racist but he's a douchebag who cheats on his wife with younger women.

2. Different leagues have different rules. Baseball could do that since the league can fined/suspend

an owner for "actions detrimental to the game." NBA rules only allow for hurting the "financial interests of the game" which is much more vague. The advertisers need to pull out or a full players' strike (probably after the playoffs) will be needed to remove Sterling. The commissioner is mostly powerless to deal with an asshat owner.

3. Would you be OK with him cheating on his wife with an older women?

I'm not sure that a year suspension is strong enough. He should be forced to sell the team.

4. If one takes into account the cheating on his wife

you'd be suspending half the players in any sport, half the owners, half the announcers. The cheating is not the issue. The racist comments are the issue.

unfortunately for the wealthy older men like himself and Donald Trump - they main game plan is going for the trophy girlfriend/future wife.

The girlfriend is no better. I'd highly doubt she would even think of dating someone like Sterling if he wasn't extremely rich so my opinion of her isn't that much better.

Even if I think the girlfriend is a golddigger that still doesn't justify the comment that Sterling made about African Americans.

“I don’t know if it was (Donald Sterling's) voice,” Rochelle Sterling said, according to ESPN. “I haven’t listened to the entire thing. I do believe there were some parts that were cut out. I will let the experts handle that. The one thing I want everyone to know: I am not a racist and I do not condone what I heard on that tape.”

6. MLB has guidelines with a provision allowing Schott to be forced out for conduct. The NBA does not.

Only an inability to pay his bills or other severe financial difficulties would trigger the owner's ability to force Sterling to give up ownership. I want him gone as much as anyone, but they're going to have to get creative. In any case, comparing the NBA to MLB is apples to oranges.

There's no clause in the franchise contract prohibiting conduct detrimental to the image of the league? That's an omission so glaring that it calls into question the competence of the people who drafted the contract language.

10. She wasn't forced to give up ownership until the late 90s
Mon Apr 28, 2014, 10:48 AM

She was back as owner for the next season. She didn't learn anything.

One thing about these aging racists, their racist mentality is hard-coded in their brains. They remember a time when they were kids that it was ok to discriminate and no one thought poorly of them. For people like Sterling, Schott, Paul Dean, Clivan Bundy and others - their racist speak is nothing more than second nature.

I could have easily turned out like one of them. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania where racist talk was everyday normal conversation at my high school. I guess something triggered in my brain that said 'This is not right'. Of course my Dad was a big help with that too.

He should be forced to speak openly and at length on what the 1% really thinks about everything. He could inspire millions to strip these a-holes of money and power. As President Obama noted, ignorant people need to talk so we see how ignorant they are.

11. You know that last sentence - I truly believe that BLM & Government setup Bundy
Mon Apr 28, 2014, 10:51 AM

My guess is the BLM folks out there in Nevada had regular dealings with Clivan Bundy and were very much aware of his racist attitude. So when Sean Hannity and the Tea Bag expressed rolled into Bundy's ranch, those people saw Bundy as this nice old-guy just trying to make a living raising his cattle and being wronged by the government. None of those people had a clue who Clivan Bundy really was but the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) surely did.

I think BLM keyed in the government that they should just walk away from any forcible battles with Bundy. They knew if Bundy was given enough lee-way he'd shoot himself in the foot and would make Sean Hannity, the Tea Baggers and Faux news all look like racist assholes for supporting him.
