(26,263 posts)At the time I wondered how serious people would take the strong potential for severe weather. The truth is, you can never be too prepared.

(31,997 posts)you never take it for granted.
We have food for a week, clothes and a whole host of flashlights, radios and things in our basement. We also have neighbors without basements that know to come over BEFORE the sirens sound.

(26,263 posts)116 people killed. It was in the top 10 for quite a while. And, of course I don't remember it, but my family has told me story after story of what it was like to live through and recover from. My Dad did a great job of teaching me how and what to prepare.
I've been through a few tornados, myself, but never anything as destructive as what I'm seeing, tonight.

(60,010 posts)Few months ago on Youtube, video of a huge tornado approaching a housing tract, and a woman stepping out of her
house, raising her palm in the direction of the storm and saying things like "In the name of Jesus, I command you to stop".
Had to admire her faith and sure would have loved to see the next 5 minutes of that vid.

(3,182 posts)I work retail on a cash register, and without fail, almost every person I spoke to today was unaware of the bad weather headed for us in Georgia tonight (early in the morning).
They heard about Arkansas, but had no idea it was headed for us.
One man bought batteries and I asked if he was stocking up for the storm. He was the only one who answered affirmatively.
