... with our furry partners in life, is that we are likely to have to let them go. Each time one of ours heads for the Rainbow Bridge, they take a little of me with them and leave some of themselves with me.

A Dogs Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in the world
is more grateful for kindness than my loving heart.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I would lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world¹s sweetest music,
as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail
when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now
a domestic animal and no longer used to bitter elements.

Feed me clean food that I may stay well to romp and play and do your biding, walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should yours be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to take my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.

Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was ever safe in your hands.

I posted earlier today that I lost my Arrow last week from a ruptured tumor on his spleen. I feel your pain. It's so unbearable. They are our lives and we never forget them.

He was a beauty. We know this day will come when we give our hearts to them, but it is still so hard. You gave him a great life and he was grateful.

I lost my Cammy when she was 13--and for that entire time she was my friend, companion and source of unconditional love, as I know Sabot was yours. I still cry when I think of Cammy, but as is Sabot, she is worthy of the tears. I send hugs from over here East of the Cascades. Sabot was blessed to share her life with such loving and caring people.

We lost our Frodo Dec. 2, I still see and hear him, tears are in my eyes again.

We had to let our girl go in February.

She was weak, and she was barely able to walk anymore.

It still hurts, but it is getting better.

This really hurts. I am more of a cat person, but I also really like dogs. In fact, I like most animals more than most people. But when my last cat had to be put to sleep a few years ago, it hurt so much I haven't yet been able to contemplate a new little buddy. Hopefully that feeling will pass for both you and me, and we will both be able to find a new friend.
