Opps - Clercical error ends a womans 23 year marriage, because she is 'officially' a man

A British woman has had her marriage dissolved and her dreams of living permanently in Australia wrecked by the fact she is officially a man.

Kim Walmsley was accidentally listed as male on her birth certificate and, upon finding this out, her marriage was declared illegal.[/quote]

...I'm wondering just why it's taken so long, and so much money, to change the certificate. This isn't a case of a sex change and wanting to change the listed gender. She's had five children, I'm pretty sure thats more then enough proof that she is actually female.

This reminds me that I was a little kid, I had heard of marriages being 'annulled' and I thought at first that meant that the police could just randomly turn up on people's doorsteps and tell them 'your marriage is null!' and turn one or both of the couple out of the house! I was scared at first that someone might suddenly come to our house and turf my parents out.

This story is just as childishly ridiculous in real life, and it's shocking that it could be allowed to happen.

BTW, the UK now has same-sex marriage; but Australia doesn't, so it may be Australia that's driving the nuttery (though trying to get any sort of bureaucratic mix-up sorted in the UK can be a bit surreal).
