House Republicans call for special prosecutor on Tea Party targeting
By Bernie Becker - 05/02/14 02:37 PM EDT
House Republicans plan to vote next week on a resolution that would urge Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRSs improper scrutiny of Tea Party groups.
In a statement announcing the vote, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Republicans have no faith in the investigation that is already being carried out at the Justice Department.
It is time for Attorney General Holder to appoint a special counsel to investigate the IRS targeting scandal and bring the appropriate charges against those responsible, Cantor said in a statement.
This is far too serious a matter to leave to the discretion of partisan political appointees no matter who is in the White House.

(15,429 posts)Congress could compel the president to appoint a Special Prosecutor.
Now,they can suggest it, and the president can flip them off.

(14,733 posts)The idea that the IRS 'targeted the Tea Party' was debunked months ago, when it was shown that far more groups on the left were given extra scrutiny than those on the right.
Seriously, it's past time the 'rule' was discarded, and we went back to the actual law on 501c4s or whatever it is they are, that they're not allowed to be political at all. Screw them all, right, left, and center. No more political activity for ANY of them.

(11,495 posts)They have nothing else to try and win in November on, no jobs programs, no "replacement" for Obama care, no clue how to fix the things the economy, nothing at all but stupid childish games trying to make the president look bad! All they can hope for is getting the brain dead base all worked up so the will come out and vote for these republican idiots come elution time.
It might be red meat for their "base", but I think the rest of the country wants something to get done, they want to see improvement, jobs, health care, help for veterans and the elderly, they want to move this country ahead and that won't happen if republicans are in charge. This kind of stupidity with trying to make a big issue out of nothing is getting old, and I think if they continue this stupidity it is going to help the democrats, not the republican party of "do nothing"!
