They're talking about the "Smart Gun".The guy who developed it won't sell it now cause he is getting death threats from gun nuts. The NRA hates this gun.Interesting topic tonight.

(14,733 posts)It's several gun shop owners who decided not to sell it after getting death threats after initially deciding to sell it.
What we actually need is for people to request it from gun shops all over until they find someone who will sell one, then buy it, then send a copy of the receipt along to the New Jersey legislature

(50,365 posts)Now that it looks like Senator Weinberg is willing to work to repeal the New Jersey law providing the NRA backs off riling up the nutjobs about the 'smart gun' and any research in that area, the ball is now in the NRA's court.
The NRA, imo, won't stop riling up the nutjobs unless the gun manufacturers want to make 'smart guns' and I don't see that happening seeing as they could have done the research, etc, long ago.

(16,974 posts)and allow the marketplace to decide. Bloomberg has billions he could develop and sell his own smart gun. The big obstacle is if this law is still in effect and one is sold it will ban all existing handguns from sale or transfer. Start with mandating police use it as on the show they are clamoring for it.
Spazito
(50,365 posts)and the NRA should let the market decide. The irony of the NRA working to prohibit the sale of a gun, doing what they say the left wants, is beyond hilarious. Their hypocrisy is on full display.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Bloomberg could buy any gun manufacturer out there and have them make any damn gun he wants. The NRA as much as I dispose them wants "CHOICE". with the current law out there, all non-smart guns would be banned and transfer would be prohibited. Some here like "CHOICE" for some but not others. I guess I put you down as a banner.
I would think if the police want it so bad they could get it done, do you know how many weapons LAPD or NYPD would purchase to replace the UNSAFE guns they have?
Spazito
(50,365 posts)The NRA doesn't want choice or they would support this gun being for sale as they do all the others. The paranoia of the nutjobs is on full display on this one.
LOL on the "I guess I put you down as a banner." You obviously didn't read my post, I distinctly said "let the market decide" which means the 'smart gun' should be allowed to be sold but the NRA and their nutty supporters are afraid of it and they are the "banners" it appears.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)That is what the NRA wants. If Bloomberg really believes what he wants as gun safety he would be for safe guns. But he is not he would like to see all guns banned.
Spazito
(50,365 posts)which is why there would need to be an agreement on both sides before the process to repeal the law begins.
Surely you don't trust the NRA, you despise them from what you wrote in your previous post (I am assuming you meant despise when you typed "dispose" in that post.)
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Call there bluff. Then if they continue they will have no excuse when called on it. I think they are just loud mouthed and when called out will back down.
gotta love autocorrect
Spazito
(50,365 posts)now we will see if they are going to continue to be a gun banner organization or will step up to the plate and forge an agreement.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)but the good Senator would not go first to repeal until the NRA agreed. No one has the fortitude to go first.

(24,135 posts)if this guy - one of their own got so many death threats... imagine how many death threats ex-Hizhonor would get.
We MUST bow to the NRA or get killed.
