So we're completely tearing up the front 'weed patch' and having it tilled up, bringing in topsoil and reseeding. They've put down a 3 ft sod barrier next to the street that we're vigilantly watering so it will take.
And every day, without fail, when the middle school gets out, it's being trampled. IT'S 3 FEET WIDE!! WALK AROUND IT!! IT'S COMPLETELY SOGGY AND YOU ARE TRAMPLING ON MY HARD EARNED MONEY!!
We're putting up a rope barrier once they seed the whole thing so the little fuckers don't commit seedling-cide.
I'm getting old. Sigh.

(146,317 posts)I water and mow. Whatever survives is my lawn. It's all green. Plus, the clover and dandelions attract bees, and bees need all the help they can get these days. I like the wild violets, too. They've learned to keep their heads down below the level of the lawnmower blade. Pretty.

(9,766 posts)We don't. We're paying hard earned money to establish a lawn. I don't give a crap who walks on it once it's established, but until then, I do.

(146,317 posts)Lots of crab grass, too. Plus plaintains, thistles, and more. I just keep it all mowed down. It's all green, so it's officially a lawn, since I use a lawnmower on it.
When I lived in California, my wife mentioned that she'd like a lawn in our front yard. The house was built on an old sand dune. So, I started watering and green stuff came up. I mowed it and watered it, and called it a lawn. It was green. Worked just fine.

(9,766 posts)We're at the bottom of a hill and we get all of the runoff...seeds and all.
This is our first and last shot. Wish me luck.

(14,400 posts)had the same problem whenever church let out.
It was a cutoff that would save people about 15 feet of walking so of course being typical most people took it.
The rope partition helped but he also made up a cardboard cutout of an old guy shaking a cane yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN!" and I think that's what really did the trick.

(16,383 posts)To keep people from letting their dogs "go" in my yard. Buy some of those little "pesticides applied" flags at the hardware store and stick them in the areas you don't want people/pets tramping on. It worked for me.
