GOPer: We Must 'Divide And Conquer' People On Public Assistance

DANIEL STRAUSS – MAY 6, 2014, 4:16 PM EDT

North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-NC), the frontrunner in the North Carolina GOP Senate primary, told a crowd two and half years ago that we must "divide and conquer" people on government assistance. Tillis proposed pitting those who are legitimately in need against those who made bad choices.

Tillis made the comments in October 2011 in Asheville, North Carolina. They were reported by local press at the time and are being circulated now by the campaign of Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) whom Tillis is vying to unseat. They were highlighted on MSNBC"s Hardball Monday.

"What we have to do is find a way to divide and conquer the people who are on assistance," Tillis said. "We have to show respect for that woman who has cerebral palsy and had no choice, in her condition, that needs help and that we should help. And we need to get those folks to look down at these people who choose to get into a condition that makes them dependent on the government and say at some point, ‘You’re on your own. We may end up taking care of those babies, but we’re not going to take care of you.’ And we’ve got to start having that serious discussion."

Tillis went on to say that discussion wouldn't happen until at least 2013.

Here is the problem, almost half of this country actually thinks the republicans are the answer to the problems, instead of the cause.

We cant fix that, we have to start over or have some sort of very ugly way of starting over like a civil war.

What will WE do when, not if, the TERRORISTS i.e. teaparty/repubs impeach Obama, and then what would you do if we lost the senate and the terrorists in the senate removed Obama?

They could already be setting up to steal the mid-term elections with all this doom and gloom about Dem chances.

And yes the question DOES become, "What WILL we do when..."

The Rethugs started this shit under Nixon and nobody cared, everyone was pissed about Vietnam. Along came Carter and nobody cared,we were more worried about saving gas than taking care of the falling middle class. Then the real douche Bag Raygun came to power, then it was Iran Contra and the looting of the middle class. Next was the so called friend of the working class Clinton, who was more concerned about his image and Wall Street DLCers rather than the people who pulled the Democratic lever at the ballot box. And then holy shit bag Queen Bush, with the middle class hanging by a thread,we got the Robert's Court, big time Gerrymandering, you guessed it,bingo, full push to demonize the Brown people and poor White people. Tell you what,to many people stayed home in 2010 and what we have today is what we deserve. People have to stop voting against their best interests. Now with Obama,we are seeing a continuing trend by the political parties to not piss off the 1%ers just to get their campaign funds,BTW,in most states the candidates get to keep any surplus funds, what a money ball game.

White people on assistance vs. people of color on assistance. The "47%" comments hurt the GOP bad. They still want poor white people to vote for them.

... of one kind or another. People with money always get a second chance (and a third, and a forth, etc.). Poor people are apparently disposable in this man's world, and he thinks that's a world "deserving" poor people would want to live in? His efforts, I hope, are doomed to fail - they certainly deserve to fail.
