http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/tony-perkins-arbiter-christianity-says-pro-gay-christians-dont-have-same-religious-rights-coEvery day, I read Right Wing Watch and every day, at least one story makes me want to punch myself in the eye. Here's today's outrage:
When a caller on Mondays edition of Washington Watch asked Perkins about his views on the case, Perkins replied that the ministers dont have the same religious rights as others because they arent real Christians and therefore arent protected by the true religious freedoms given to Christians.
WTF? Did he read anything about the Bill of Rights at all?!?

He should get a gun and join the militia in Nevada cuz eventually his agenda will require attacking America and killing everyone he hates

(9,127 posts)Perkins' professed outrage has a disturbing sub-text--that Christian sects that don't have what he and his buddies define as "orthodox religious viewpoints" in other areas aren't entitled to "true religious freedom." This is the same sort of calls for religious persecution that led millions of people to flee their homelands to come to America and worship the Almighty as they pleased. As usual, most liturgical Christians, members of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints, and heterodox Christian sects will ignore Tony Perkins' not-particularly-well-concealed calls for persecution against them.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins implied today that Christians who support gay rights dont have the same religious rights as conservative Christians because true religious freedom only applies to orthodox religious viewpoints. Last month, a group of North Carolina ministers and same-sex couples, along with the United Church of Christ denomination, filed a lawsuit challenging North Carolinas constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. - See more at: http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/tony-perkins-arbiter-christianity-says-pro-gay-christians-dont-have-same-religious-rights-co#sthash.kCAmNYb7.dpuf
This is not simply another right-wing assault on gays. This is an assault on the religious liberties of tens of millions of devout Americans that bigoted right-wing sectarians desire to persecute.
Methodists, Episcopalians, Roman Catholics, Greek and Russian Orthodox, Mormons, Quakers, Christian Scientists, Lutherans and others have just been given ample reason to be suspicious of the hell-brew of religion and politics that Tony Perkins is pushing. Today gays and abortion, tomorrow the rights of worship and assembly.
