Yay! Bill would force members of Congress to fly coach

And then there's this:

Bill would force members of Congress to fly coach

Thursday, May 15, 2014
WASHINGTON (WLS) --

Members of Congress fly across the country continually for business, but a new bill would keep them from spending taxpayer money on first-class seats.

The "If Our Military Has to Fly Coach Then So Should Congress Act" was recently introduced by Rep. Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.), with his colleagues Reps. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.), Walter Jones (R-N.C.) and John Barrow (D-Ga.).

The bill is aimed at cutting "waste, fraud and abuse," according to a statemnt by Rep. Gosar.

"Members of Congress should not be using taxpayers' hard-earned money to buy luxury airline seats. If members of our military can't fly first class using taxpayer funds, neither should members of Congress," Gosar said.

Each member of Congress receives an average of $256,574 as a base allowance for travel, according to the Congressional Research Service, which would not be affected by the bill. The bill would instead prohibit members of Congress from using that allowance on first-class travel, according to ABC News.

Politicians would still be able to use their numerous frequent flier miles to upgrade their seats as well.

I have a relative that is a member of Congress and he flies to the State of Washington twice a week.

He buys coach but with his frequent flier miles upgrades to first class.

It's not costing taxpayers a dime for him to fly first class!

As usual, this is just PR stunt and has nothing to do with running this fucking country.

God, this shit just pisses me off....

You are asking me to accept that the travel allowance, $256,000.00<$0.10??? People who receive a quarter million dollars a year for travel and think nothing of it have everything to do with running the country. When you consider their "allowance" is equal to what 25 people receive in a year from SS it's not surprising they have little concept of how many of their constituents live.

God,that shit just pisses me off...

I can assure you the person I am talking about does not.

And he is well aware of how his constituents live. That is how he beat his opponent the first time he ran. He went door to door for months and talked to them.

And he still does it.

while serving in Congress. Maintain a residence in your district but move your family to Washington, or leave your family behind and maintain a residence in Washington. I would prefer to see the representatives keep their residence back home and only work 3 1/2 to 4 days a week in Washington. I feel this gives them more connection to their home district/state. I also would like to see them housed together in something like a Four Seasons and have no per diem except meals when traveling back and forth. I think if representatives /senators from both parties were forced to eat together and spend time together in hotel common rooms, we might have a little more collegiality. They would be living more like upper level sales people.

My relative actually sleeps in his office and showers in the gym. It was too expensive to rent an apartment and have a residence back home.

When he first got there, he shared an apartment with 3 other congressmen, but even that became expensive.

At one time he worked quite well with repugs...the last few years it has been almost impossible for him to find anyone with common goals on even uncontroversial items.

Sad.
