Conservatives opposed to Lee Terry (R-NE) mull options for getting independent candidate on ballot

Rep. Lee Terry's unsuccessful Republican primary challenger has refused to back the eight-term incumbent and instead suggests that local conservatives could carry their anti-Terry effort into the general election.

Dan Frei and his supporters have options for extending the battle to November.

They could mount a write-in campaign or launch a petition drive to place one of their ranks on the ballot as an independent candidate.

Neither route is likely to produce an actual victory, but anything that siphons off Terry votes could undermine his ability to defeat the Democrats' nominee, State Sen. Brad Ashford.
