I love this. He is not afraid to fight to win. With so many Rick Scott hundreds of millions attacking him everyday plus both parties in general out to get him...he fights the Florida odds.
This was such a stupid move on the part of the Council of 100. He called them out on it.
Charlie Crist basks in Florida Council of 100's galactically stupid snub
The reasons for the cancellation are unclear, but people familiar with the decision said the group felt nervous about the political ramifications of upsetting Gov. Rick Scott at its spring general membership meeting.
The Florida Council of 100, a politically astute group of top business leaders, abruptly blocked a speech Thursday by Charlie Crist scheduled shortly after an address by Gov. Rick Scott, the Democrats successor and likely opponent in November.
The Republican-leaning group had invited Crist weeks ago to address its spring meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, and offered 30 minutes of speaking time.
On Tuesday, it withdrew the invitation, but Crist showed up anyway and listened to Scotts talk. He then called a press conference and basked in the free publicity.
Its silly, childish and, frankly, rude, said Crist. Its galactically stupid.
Good for him.

Ha. So much for that reason.
The article also pointed out:
The highly public snub of Crist by Floridas corporate leadership played directly into his hands. Hes being vastly outspent by Scott in TV advertising and hes running as a populist peoples governor who sides with individuals, not corporations that support Scott.
Bill Nelson once said he was standing by in the wings in case Crist got in trouble. I hate to tell Bill but Scott's hundreds of millions could make things rough for him as well....even as blue doggish as he is.
Crist outraised Scott last month by a lot, but Scott has his own little bankroll on the way soon.

(88,117 posts)And that is what is coming. So many groups on Scott's side, so many Democrats still attacking Crist. Makes me nervous Scott can somehow pull it out.
Scott says he will put 100 million against Crist before fall.

It is also superfluously redundant.

(88,117 posts)The Council of 100 Crist cancellation isnt the first time that Scott critics have encountered turbulence over free speech.
In March, Florida State University professor Diane Roberts, an occasional Tampa Bay Times op-ed contributor and frequent Scott critic, was uninvited from speaking at the state-run Mission San Luis. A state worker, Jessica Kindrick, quit in protest and accused Scotts cronies at the Secretary of States office of censorship. The office later reversed its decision and invited Roberts to speak.
Another example is given as well.

(88,117 posts)And we are going to take a few concrete steps:
We will get the politics out of university governance. As Governor, we will re-empower the Board of Governors to make sure excellence in our universities is coordinated. Issues like the creation of Florida Polytech, and even this debate over FSU and FAMU engineering school have shown what happens when University Governance is delegated to politicians, who put their interests before the peoples interest.
We need to invest in making sure that our universities are centers of excellence. We need to focus on programs like Grow Florida at UCF and we need to make sure the business community is involved in the direction of our universities. For example, as Governor, I would create a standing task force, that reports to the Governors office, that ensures the programs in our universities are meeting the needs of todays workforce. To build a truly world class university system, the state and the business community must work hand in hand.
Not only will I reverse Governor Scotts cuts to Bright Futures scholarships, I will propose an expansive new program that will incentivize students to stay in school and earn their graduate degree in key science, technology, engineering and medical programs if they agree to stay here and work in Florida.
We will compete for the best and the brightest students around the world. In todays economy, Florida competes not only with the competitors we can see, but also those you we cannot. We should be recruiting the best students from around the world to learn here in our schools. As Governor, we will actively work to make Florida an attractive place for international students to learn. And even if they dont stay, the long term relationships built here can only help our economy in the long haul.
Some of Bob Graham's priorities there for sure.
One way to get a speech heard.

(88,117 posts)He should never have been an R. He's good guy who sold a little of his soul while he was an R in a party of extremists. Now he's a better D than most leaders in the FL D party.
I heard there would be influxes of R's against Crist. Is it beginning?

(34,136 posts)Christ continued Jeb's policies and reversed none of them. While I agree Christ was better than Scott is, he is still a Bush toady. Even after changing his affiliation from R to I to D, he has never disavowed a single Bush policy.
I am not a R coming in to smear Christ - I've been a Democrat since I registered to vote in 1972. I've been on DU since at least 2008. But living here in Tallahassee, I know the reign of terror that started with Jeb Bush against state workers and open government continued unabated when Christ was elected. For instance, Jeb removed most of the protections from state workers and made their positions "fire at will" - some state workers were fired because they had Democratic campaign stickers on their vehicles - and Christ did not reinstate the policies that had protected workers for decades.
As I told the Democratic apparatus, I'll vote for Christ (while holding my nose and trying not to puke) solely to get Scott OUT. But I will never be happy that the Florida Democratic Party did not make a decent attempt to find a real Democrat to run - instead they settled for a DINO.
As a result, I will NEVER again volunteer for any campaign work for the Florida Democratic Party or contribute to them in any way. I will ONLY contribute to and volunteer for individual candidates of my choice.

(11,138 posts)Scott, on the other hand, is a fucking cancer. He is the embodiment of political evil. He is the spiritual heir apparent to the blighted soul of Dick Cheney. In an election between Scott and Beelzebub himself I would hope that an asteroid hit the earth wiping out life as we know it but in the event it didn't, I'd have to vote for Satan.
