What do you think about a major breast cancer forum that uses the term "boobs" to fund raise?

Well, I can tell you that members of this forum have a lot to say, and about 99.9% is not positive.

On your Facebook page you advertise a fundraiser benefitting breastcancer.org called "Baubles For Boobs." I am so disgusted that you would choose a title like this for a fundraising event. For an organization that appears interested in the dignity of women suffering from a life threatening illness - and ultimately it's NOT about the boobies or the Tatas or "second base; it's about the livers, lungs and brains where the metastases seed (just ask any of the women on the Stage IV boards) - with the naming of this event you have bought in to the "let's make breast cancer fun!" mentality that permeates many fund raising organizations.

I saw some of the posts, and I disagree with some of the comments that were made, like that nobody would consider a fundraiser like "Bowling for Balls" if it was a men's cancer. Frankly, I think people would do that, and I think people would respond favorably and with humor, just as some will do with "Baubles for Boobs."

However, in the context of all the women who are likely to lose their lives due to metastatic disease, I agree that it's tacky as all get out. I'm tired of seeing breast cancer being talked about as saving the boobies, ha ha, and this is how all you ladies can be glamorous through your chemo. Buy pink crap! Rah!

Breast cancer is no joking matter, killing or crippling so many women every year often years after they had their initial lumpectomy, mastectomy, chemo, radiation, etc. The marketing arm of the breast cancer fundraising mafia has done a real disservice to the women who are suffering most, and whose faces will never make it onto the glam posters because emaciated bodies, NG and feeding tubes, and wheelchairs are just too depressing to "sell" cancer to public funders.

I've watched far too many members (women and men) succumb to this terrible disease, leaving devastated families, often including young children. Breast cancer is definitely no laughing matter. Too bad the Moderators don't see it that way.

..is an awkward or stupid person.

Never did understand how "boob" became related to breasts.

Not being a prude... god knows... but only a boob would have boobs. Is that what we think of women?

And a national anti-cancer program using "boobs"?

I think they can do better.

Oxford English Dictionary: "Etymology: Compare German bübbi teat (Grimm). Connection with French poupe teat of an animal (formerly also of a woman), Provençal popa, Italian poppa teat, is very doubtful."

Scotia called "Tits and Glitz". Only women can go. Friends get together and design breast centered costumes. Nothing pornographic. It was packed when I was there serving. They have a room on the side where you can get your torso photographed for posterity. The costumes are brilliant, hillarious and outrageous. Because no men are there there is a very wholesome vibe to this worship of all things breasts. It was one of the big social events of the year. I was serving and I left with a healthy respect for breasts and women's health above all. It is a great concept and it works. Don't knock it, till you try it.

If your honest answer is no, I respectfully ask that you stop calling we survivors, who would like our real suffering to not be trivialized, the "outraged brigade."

And every time I wear it to a major event (state fair, Renaissance festival, etc), random strangers inevitably stop and tell me how much they like that shirt and like the message I'm sending.

I was hugged by a complete stranger once who was a breast cancer survivor, because she was so happy to see a "big, strong guy brave enough to wear a shirt like that".

I've never had one person tell me they were offended by my shirt.

allow me to say STOP THE NEGATIVITY. We already deal with so much - if it bothers someone, don't be the word police, just walk off, close the screen - just ignore it.
