Utah AG Gets Wish, Adoptions Halted for Same-Sex Couples

Utah's attorney general has successfully stopped same-sex couples from adopting children while marriage equality is under review in the courts.

The Desert News reports that Attorney general Sean Reyes had been confronted this week by 3rd District Judge Andrew Stone, who threatened to hold health department officials in contempt for refusing to amend a child's birth certificate with the names of both mothers, Kimberly and Amber Leary. But the attorney general's office announced on Saturday that the Utah Supreme Court issued a stay in this and other cases so the state no longer must comply, at least not until a ruling comes down on the constitutionality of Utah's marriage ban.

More than 1,300 couples were married in Utah during a brief window when the marriage ban was struck down by a judge who refused to delay his ruling from taking effect. A stay was later granted by a higher court. But in the interim, couples like the Learys were left in limbo, with the state refusing to recognize their marriages even though the federal government does.

they know it, and they're trying to drag out this holier-than-thou shit as long as they can to keep their Mormon voters pacified. I love Utah, but the politics there are fucked up in the extreme.

The tide is turning, now more Americans than ever before favor marriage equality and LGBT rights. I try not to let myself get discouraged by stories like this, and remind myself equality will prevail in the long run.

In the meantime, let's not give up on the fight of achieving full rights for LGBT individuals, it's been a tough fight but I'm in it for the long haul.

to halt this, yet they know it's to late. They lost. It's just going to take a little time to finish this. But finish it we will.

Those children deserve a loving family and gays and lesbians deserve to love who they wish. Patience my friend, the horse has left starting gate and there is no stopping her.

William.

are directly affected by this Halt of Adoptions by Same Sex Couples from AG Sean Reyes in Utah!

So hoping with everyone else that the Ruling comes down in favor of the marriage ban being Unconstitutional!
