My SIL stays with me several days a week. Today she complained of pain in her chest and swelling on one side. I had my suspicions but we went to see her pediatrician just for peace of mind. Sure enough, she is entering puberty.
Lover Boy says I have to give her "the Talk." Sure. Okay.
I knelt before her and said, "Repeat after me: Boys are dumb."
I think she'll be just fine.

How obnoxious.

(146,317 posts)For a girl just entering into puberty, it is simply a true statement.
Adult men should be able to laugh heartily at that line. If they cannot, then they may be taking themselves far too seriously.

Until then, you have my utmost sympathy.

(19,497 posts)By "aunt" did you mean my SIL from the OP?

(146,317 posts)I have a T-shirt with that on it. I wear it sometimes, and it gets great reactions.
Telling a girl that "Boys are dumb" is pretty redundant. I think most girls know that already.

(19,497 posts)Seriously?
We want her to see the world as a giant place adventure and knowledge. We want her to learn Wisdom and Love in all of their myriad forms. We also want her to learn not to take life too seriously.
The anecdote so many are having such difficulty with elicited a chuckle out of my SIL and a kiss on the forehead from my husband. I'm not looking for the rest of y'all to give me a kiss on the forehead but why is it so hard for this place to share a chuckle?

(19,497 posts)since you haven't shared any child-rearing stories that I am personally aware of this is obviously a declaration on your part that your children are raised to be amoral savages.

Silly of me to see your innocent musings as anything other than a shot across the bow...
(Still, cute story)

(19,497 posts)I adore him. I have never felt so physically and emotionally secure in my life. I have never been so satisfied as a person and a woman. Oddly, he says I make him happy, bring him a sense of peace and purpose. I feel like a giddy school girl just thinking about him. Even when we've had our serious moments we have confronted those moments always with the thought we were on the same team.
Yet, to read the responses in this thread you'd think I spend my every moment emasculating him in front of his sister.
It was a light-hearted pause from a moment when an unsure girl confronted the reality of moving towards womanhood. Fear was turned to laughter, uncertainty became a less-frightening thing.
I refuse to feel bad about that. My only mistake was sharing it here, apparently.
