(14,971 posts)There is no purpose to banning her from graduation for this prank besides vengeance because Gray had some unauthorized fun. Full stop. Anyone involved in punishing a high school girl for a harmless joke that involves the chemical elements is someone whose prudery and hatred for the young has distorted their soul until they are dead inside. How hateful. How sad. The joke is cute. Its good she paid attention in chemistry. Leave it alone, assholes.
In addition, I will point out that backing ones ass up is a fine way to use your ass. In fact, its probably the second most common task asses are put to, besides sitting on them. Ideally, you really should spend more time backing your ass up and less time sitting on it, for health reasons. So not only is this a nerdy science joke of the sort schools should be celebrating, its just good advice for living.
Luckily, Grays mom is supportive of her. My first reaction was, you are such a nerd, she said. Yes. God forbid.

(8,377 posts)I suppose at some level, an administrator must not approve of the "A" word associated with official school business. Fair enough. A smart principal would call her into the office and say,
"Young lady. You used the "A" word inappropriately. I am going to require you to stay after school one minute tonight. Let me know how that goes.
Now about your speech at graduation, I want you to get out there and kick some, er, uh, fanny."

(11,362 posts)"back that ass up"?
I don't get it. Is it a song or something?
It would seem the school overreacted, but shouldn't this be funny?

(11,243 posts)A bit raunchy, but not too bad in the greater scheme of things. Pretty sure the average high school student has been exposed to worse

(11,243 posts)Why make trouble where there really is none. I don't even understand what is so offensive about the prank. Is it the word "ass" or the fact that a teenager got one over on them?

UPDATE: Paris Gray and her family met with the school's principal and the area superintendent on Tuesday. They apologized for the miscommunication and said they would not deny her giving a speech at graduation. The superintendent challenged her to "give the best speech ever."
