Obama Takes An Impromptu Stroll, Causes Tourists To Lose It (VIDEO)
Catherine Thompson May 22, 2014, 12:11 PM EDT
President Barack Obama took an impromptu stroll Wednesday along the National Mall, and some bystanders freaked out at the prospect of meeting their commander in chief.
"It's good to be out," Obama quipped to reporters. "The bear is loose."
He greeted people along the way with handshakes, hugs and White House-branded M&M's. One enthusiastic woman asked the President to snap a photo with her family.
I saw this first at TPM.
I also noticed there weren't any of those Operation American Spring assholes anywhere to be found.

(15,392 posts)I talked about how if I were president, I would "disguise" myself (so that I was still easily recognizable) and go to a gun store of an insane right-winger and inquire about discounts for massive orders before calling it off when one of the "in disguise" secret service agents with me accidentally called me, "Mister President," instead of the agreed-upon, "Bob." You know, just to freak them out.
It's kind of like the story I heard of Bill Murray going up to a diner in a restaurant and eating some of his french fries while telling him, "No one will ever believe you."
As president, I would disguise myself (a little bit better) and join in the OAS and whenever someone yelled something, and the crowd yelled back, I would continue yelling after everyone else finished. "The bum needs to go! He turned me into a Newt! Bring back, 'Arrested Development!' Why can't McDonalds always have the McRib on the menu?" until people finally turned to see who the oddball was, and they realized it was me, the president. The weenies would pee themselves.

(62,444 posts)As you can tell by the foliage, this video was actually shot last year, and is a lame attempt to make it appear that there aren't 10 million patriots camped out in Washington awaiting surrender of whomever and establishment of Constitutional whatever.
The "tourists" are paid actors, and some of them are CGI animations. The actor identified in one of the shots was found dead at a bus stop in Arlington three months ago.
My alternative theory is that he left and they locked up the White House in an attempt to dodge subpoenas from the Benghazi committee, which was asking for his birf certificate.
valerief
(53,235 posts)released later this year. The story is about the Benghazi catastrophe and how, if Shrek had been elected, the dozen-plus U.S. embassy attacks and 9-11 attack under Obama's watch since 2001 would never have happened. It also hints that the Obama administration caused the War on Grenada, too.

Don't understand the low popularity rating. But short of having a(nother) dotty liar in the White House (Reagan), I don't think Americans will EVER have high popularity ratings on their President again. It's what we do.
Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)"Don't understand the low popularity rating."
...not enough Americans are fully aware of our checks-and-balances system, and they may develop unrealistic expectations towards a President who has had to deal with a hostile Congress virtually his entire Presidency. If some people don't get what they want quick enough (such as jobs), they tune out and/or start misdirecting the blame. I've heard some even on here claim that Obama wasted time when Democrats held a strong majority in both Houses in 2009, but during that very short period was actually when he was able to get the most stuff done (compared to the last few years).

(1,786 posts)To have been alive during his administration as opposed to have only been able to read about as with JFK. While he has not done all that I had hoped for (reducing the Patriot Act footprint/accountability for Wall Street) he is still the best President during my lifetime, his down to earth caring, compassion and empathy for our country and it's citizens are second to none for the office he holds. Thank you Mr. President for showing America what it means to be human first and President second.

(8,175 posts)I'd like to sit in a quiet room and have a meaningful conversation with Obama. But I'd probably be too tongue tied to speak. Just walking along and meeting him like this would be so awesome!
And he is a lovely man. I'm not sure there is any better way to say it (credit to someone above me).

(31 posts)I would have so many things to say if I were in that quiet room but am afraid the words would come out like duh..duhh.. uh, umm and, so why is that Mr. President?
I'm really conflicted with Obama. Such a nice guy, it seems, yet I have a very hard time reconciling why he does/allows some of the things he does (Net neutrality and Wheeler, the Wars, Gitmo, Drones, Data Collection, Snowden, etc, etc, etc.). Sure, I understand he only has but SO much power when we have things like voting in the House and Senate, but gee wiz.
I met Clinton impromptu and shook his hand in DC in the middle of the street while I was lifted up by my Mother onto her back to get a good view - I was probably 6 or 7. I Didn't really grasp who it was and why it was important at the time but I never forgot about it and can remember his face in that memory clear as day. It was only some time later that I grasped what had happened. Congrats to those who met President Obama, a fine day to be remembered regardless of your views.

(6,943 posts)I've had the distinct honor and privilege of meeting BHO in person, and he's a genuinely NICE man! I first met him (and Michelle) at a county Democratic Christmas party in December 2005, during his primary battle for the US Senate seat from Illinois. I was so impressed that I became one of two (out of 35) precinct committeemen in our county to support him in the primary. He is intelligent, engaging with a 'warm' personality that too frequently isn't apparent on camera.
