A group of gay and transgender people in Jamaica have been driven from their homes and are forced to live in old storm drain, according to Channel 4?s Unreported World.
The programme, which is set to air on Friday, follows Krissy, who has faced violent attacks for being openly gay and trans in Jamaican society.
Gay men can face up to 10 years in prison in Jamaica under a state buggery law, while lesbians and trans people also face assaults and persecution, following a dramatic upsurge in homophobic and transphobic attacks.
Krissy lives in a drain designed to carry flood water with a group of gay and transgender friends, in filthy, crowded conditions, and under constant threats of evictions by the local authorities.... MORE

Why should anyone avoid vacationing in Jamaica because LGBTIs there are being persecuted when there are people right here on a progressive forum debating which anti-gay state that persecutes its own LGBTI citizens should be awarded the National Democratic Convention and all those tourist dollars? Can we spell cognitive dissonance? Yes, we can.

(45,319 posts)They are a sarcastic, mean culture, anyone who listens to the locally popular music will hear songs praising acid attacks, corrective rape, laced with anti gay and also anti Jewish language. The newspapers there are openly bigoted.
I used to love Marley, now when his music plays I leave the room. His family is part of all of this hate and they really know better.
