Olbermann Vows to Sue Current TV
By United Press International
31 March 12
U.S. television personality Keith Olbermann said via Twitter he plans to sue Current TV for remarks its founders made after his dismissal Friday.
Olbermann's nightly commentary show, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," premiered in June on Current TV. He also was appointed the network's chief news officer after he left MSNBC in January 2011 following stormy interactions with management, including a suspension for contributing to political candidates.
His MSNBC show also was called "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."
"I'd like to apologize to my viewers and my staff for the failure of Current TV," Olbermann said in a statement on Twitter after the network had announced his firing on its Web site.

(154,021 posts)They have been building up viewership.
I have found Granholm to be very good.
Keith I like you, but I do not think Current has failed. You need some help, four networks...at this point I gotta conclude you have a few issues.

(3,180 posts)I am forced to listen to Alex Bennett on XM and it's just brutal.

(18,628 posts)I didn't know if there were any devout fans here, but her soporific voice alone belies the aggressive title of her show.
She speaks in such soft and sultry tones that the show should be called "The Methadone Zone". Even in her commercial spots, she reminds me of the demeaner Nurse Cratchet used, careful not to get anyone in the ward too excited.
I tried watching twice, but lost interest both times within 10 minutes. Maybe by the end of the show she adopts the decisive presence of a war room commander, but I'll be tuned in to Rachel by then.

(53,661 posts)The rightwing media will simply call this another liberal media failure. I can hear O'Really and Rush cheering this on now.

(154,021 posts)Also for a failing network they keep expanding programing. That is not a failing network.

(53,661 posts)And he's independently wealthy, for which I congratulate him, so he can indulge himself at will.
I wonder if RT would take him on, if he wants to continue to do these programs. I feel he has been a much needed voice and powerful for progressive movements.
But he is not the only voice, just one of the best known. His prime years were on MSNBC calling out the rightwing, no holds barred on O'Reilly, etc.

(5,169 posts)Cool movie - I really liked Michael Keaton as Batman, and Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito rocked it as Catwoman and The Penguin, but it seems out of place on Current.
Is that part of their new cost cutting measures: playing 20 year old superhero movies instead of original documentaries and talk shows? Will Jennifer Granholm and Cenk Uyger end up losing their jobs to Spiderman and The Wolverine?
Does anyone else remember when the History Channel had shows and movies about history as opposed to pawn shops and garbage pickers?

(1,948 posts)And while Batman Returns if probably my favorite of the Batman movies I was wondering why it was on Current.

(5,169 posts)And I realized it is a movie celebrating a super-rich vigilante "saving us" from those nasty street people.
Saturday afternoons, kids out of school, this is a time to double down on educating the masses about racial and economic injustice, not brainwashing them with Billionaire Bruce Wayne saving the world through extrajudicial violence.

(23,542 posts)More people will tune in out of curiosity. I'm also hoping Stephanie Miller and Bill Press will help them. I don't know what happened with Keith
But, it is more important that their are liberal voices on the airwaves when we have such greedy evil people out there pouring millions and millions
into right wing media.
I'm guessing not to many people are going to want to hire Keith now.

(1,435 posts)I was disappointed many evenings by his absense. I'm sure part of his frustration was his ratings, felt he was talking to himself. They were starting a new progressive format and it wasn't going to have huge ratings right away. They had to lure viewers from other networks to join them, viewing habits are hard to break but being absent doesn't help to build an audience. Seems he would work harder at the start to lure new viewers, the production problems would work themselves out.
I like the Cenk and Jenenifer Granholm shows, it's the guests and the content that make the show.
They are not the airheads on Msnbc daytime programing.
Cenk and Granholm seem to be coming from some cellar but are not complaining, they are not competing with Bill O. Granholm has a good show is well informed, knownlegable has great guests.

(8,434 posts)every time I actually tuned in to Current to see KO there was a guest host and I tuned right back out.
Building a new network takes time and dedication, something I never got to see from KO.
