http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/24/business/media/others-fade-but-judge-judy-is-forever-at-71-she-still-presides.htmlLOS ANGELES Judge Judith Sheindlin, the straight-talking star of Judge Judy, peered down at a sassy defendant with disgust. Listen to me, Miss Fibby, Judge Sheindlin snapped at a recent taping here. They dont keep me here because Im gorgeous. They keep me here because Im smart.
It was a classic Judge Judy retort: sour yet funny, superior yet self-deprecating. But it was also not exactly true. (Cue judicial scowl.) At a time when the broadcast television audience is fragmenting, CBS keeps her on that bench because, at 71 years old and finishing her 18th season in daytime syndication, she is a viewer-grabbing machine.

(15,139 posts)her abrasive and rude. Too often she cuts people off without hearing them out. I wouldn't want to stand before her in a courtroom.

(5,158 posts)She is always looking down on those before her and thinking she is better than they are, just because of the position she is in. She reminds me of Nancy Grace in a way.
Of course I never really liked any of these justice type shows anyway. I don't like seeing people embarrassed on public television.

(10,893 posts)always complains about JJ's rudeness, yet she still watches her show daily. I know that there's not much good to watch on TV during her time slot where I am, but still--why torture herself? That's like me continuing to watch Maury (which I don't anymore) even after I feel dumber while watching his show and as I have nothing but contempt for his biased studio audience.

(23,664 posts)She's very critical of people on any sort of public assistance and seems to make decisions before she has heard all the facts, sometimes based solely on the appearance of the litigants.
The sarcasm was cute 20 years ago but it's long past its sell by date. Now, "Judge Judy" just seems like a miserable, unhappy screeching harpy.
My wife is a fan of this drivel and I can sometimes hear it from the other room. In between the ads for cheesy for profit "colleges", crapola cheap ass auto insurance companies and ambulance chasing lawyers, that is. If she were to vanish from TV tomorrow, she'd be forgotten in a week.

She has a peice of paper that says she's a judge, but in all honesty she is a insult for everything judges stand for. She isn't out to bring justice - She's out to bring viewer ratings.

(4,452 posts)pause on some of these shows. I find, whatever, doesn't affect my life the most infuriating thing is that people participate in this crap for whatever reason. Hey, it might be a chance to get some recognition or some financial reward, doesn't affect my life unless I know them.
As far as those "judges" that participate in the crap. Hey, you gotta make a living, right?
Those that I would consider something close to fair and deliberative based on accepted law? My first choice would be Judge Marilyn Milian. She actually seems to exhibit some judgment and consideration of the situation not just trying to be judgmental and punitive.
My next best would be Judge Wapner, but that is really old school isn't it?
I don't think I've seen him in a decade and a half.
All in all, I couldn't give a shit but this stuff affects the way people perceive what we call the civil justice system. Don't even start on the criminal justice system. There is much more criminal than justice in either one. The poorer you are, the less balanced it is.
Only a few more hours to watch the meteor shower. I think I might have a bagel and a cup of Joe to make sure I'm still awake.
