(60,018 posts).. It was a beautiful calm night at Falls Lake and I was serenaded by a Chuck Will's Widow the entire time. Also got to see the herds of deer that manage our neighborhood!

(25,969 posts)I stayed outside for 30 minutes and saw one meteorite heading in a northeasterly direction. I went back inside when I developed a crick in my neck.

(25,576 posts)When you stare at the dark sky for that long, you're never certain that you see what you're think you're seeing or that it's just a tracer on your retina from a star in the peripheral vision. We have too much ambient light here anyway...but I really would have liked to see a hail of meteors.
One night about 20 years ago I awakened with the usual business anxieties and was staring out my window and there was this gigantic green flash which lit up the entire night sky. It lasted about 2 seconds and then flicked off. I assumed that it was a large meteor which exploded high above the Earth. My condo at the time overlooked Philly and I could see about twenty miles or so from the window. The entire landscape had been lit up like someone turned on the lights. Amazing...it was not lightning - it was way too far-reaching.

(19,964 posts)I had everything set up, including some blankets (it was quite cold last night), then waited... and waited... and waited. Took breaks to have hot coffee. Came back, waited... and waited... and waited. Rinse, repeat. Till about 4 a.m.
Nothin'.

(32,068 posts)There was nothing. Depending on where you are at on the earth there are actually meteor 'showers' every night. When I was in Tibet at 18,000 feet and zero artificial light at night you could see spectacular shows every-night in the sky.
