An Omaha man was behind bars Saturday for allegedly attacking a police dog.
Police said the 42-year-old man took a fighting stance when a K-9 officer tried to arrest him near 24th and G Streets about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The man was wanted on a felony arrest warrant in connection with driving on a revoked license and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.

(5,032 posts)Hitting it while the jaws are clamped increases the bite on you.
Gouging eyes takes two hands
If he hit the dog AS it was trying to bite then he has the reflexes of a ninja that no 42 year should have.
Also, explain to me how to NOT get charged with assaulting a police dog once it is deployed.
This is the kind of charge they tack on CONSTANTLY and almost all the time it is dropped.
I personally have seen a person get charged with assaulting a police officer when the officer couldn't keep his horse in control. The officer HAD to charge the teenage girl his horse kicked and nearly killed because otherwise he couldn't protect his job.

(5,604 posts)dogs and horses should not be used for law enforcement. Search and rescue absolutely, but otherwise it unfairly risks the life of an animal, and also gives an animal more rights than a human citizen. I feel badly for the dog, but it shouldn't have ever been placed in that situation. And you are correct that the number of charges heaped upon someone is usually bullshit to ensure that something sticks.

(5,756 posts)Attacking a human police office is heinous and attacking a dog is equally bad imho. But I am biased because I am a long-time dog owner. I can't remember a day in my life when my family or I didn't have a dog.

I miss our Oogli here in Burbank. He was gentle and affectionate to children but WHEN RELEASED could tear one of those fake arm things to shreds... I saw it.
He died of a heart attack.
It took a lot of time and money to replace him... but nothing can make up for the sense of loss... of Officer Oogli.
edited for spelling ... He was Belgian and spoke only German.
