Plus size. A big WTF...edited updated...

Last edited Sun Jun 1, 2014, 03:18 PM - Edit history (1)

My girlfriend came over this morning to get my opinion on a new swimsuit top. She's a size 12 but gets a 14 in a swim suit. We were looking at Lands End and she clicked the box 14W. We were shocked at what the models looked liked. So we changed the box to 18W. Blown the fuck away.

What the hell....

Women that wear that size don't look like these ladies...

If you're going to advertise for plus size then use plus size models. I think people would like to see how the clothes would look on someone built like them. You wouldn't put an DD cup bra on an A cup women would you.

Just for good measure.

My brother put this on his facebook page the other night. I love my brothers....

edited to include this info..

I don't know why I didn't get the plus size modes when I entered my info. But I was wrong they do use plus size models as NMDemDist2 pointed out in reply #9 http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=5034518

I think when you're looking for clothing especially swimwear you'd like to have some idea how it's going to look on your 'body type'.

plus when I did a search, I used 18W and chose 'plus' on the left and didn't get the plus sized models.

At any rate, it's good that they used them. I will put your link in the OP with an edit that there are plus size modes on their site. I want to accurate.

Thank you for the info.

and I won't give them back. I'm a woman now. Keep in mind that the fashion industry is ruled by (mostly) straight women and gay men, neither of whom is sexually attracted to women. The gay women I know and the straight men I know all like their women to have some "meat" on them. Notice that the male models are often quite attractive (in a sort of overly muscled way), because the straight women and gay men are actually sexually attracted to men and they know what looks good on a guy. The women that the fashion industry present to us all look like teenaged boys or young men----no surprise there, because the straight women and gay men think that a young man looks more attractive than a young woman.

and have had boyfriends insist I gain weight.

they didn't like my pointy hipbones I reckon

no worries now. I'm getting a little more of a figure as I age

but yeah, I always wondered why they use emaciated women as models. Most people I know IRL who are attracted to females like a more realistic form in their partners.

I love your last line

so if they show a six foot two normal body mass for height woman she is probably wearing at least a size twelve or fourteen. But to our eyes she will look like an eight or ten since we can not see how tall she is. However, there are very few six foot two women out there who wear a size twelve because of their bones---and there are a lot of five foot five women who wear a size twelve because of their curves. Maybe the ads should tell us the models shoe size. That would reveal a lot.

my clothes are all baggy, because i have big breasts.
we are talking 150lb here, 5'2", and i am in xl and plus. but nothing else fits right.

its a drag. i am sure i could justify the cost of a tailor is i had a job like that.
one good reason i am a farmer.
beware of enterprises requiring new clothes.

I get the idea that quality costs, but that strikes me as RIDICULOUS. Ladies, is there something I don't know because (at least in this instance) I'm just a dumb Man?

I'm a Soraya fan and my suits and cover ups often cost more than that. I'm also a full 34D and don't want padding (Venus, Victorias Secret pad a lot) but do want support. So it's worth it to feel like my top isn't going to fall off.

The whole Sports Illustrated debate kind of showed that a lot of men at DU don't have a clue about, fit, lines, value. You aren't alone and you aren't dumb.

I usually wait till the end of the season an get a good top on sale. I wear separates. It kills me having to spend that kind of money. It's like we're punished for being large.

Been like that my whole life. Special stores for my bras because you HAVE to have the support. I don't skimp on my bras.

Unless you live in an area that's warm all year round you're only wearing it a couple months a year. Add to that unless you have a pool, live in a community that has a community pool, have a friend/family member etc which you visit often that has a pool how much are you going to wear that 115 dollar swim suit.

If you have a boat you might wear it a lot.

I have a pool and I still wouldn't pay that much for a swimsuit.

Women's clothes out price mens--I think.

I was in the the store with my husband. I was buying a few colored tees and I wanted to buy some underwear. When my husband saw the price he was like shit I could buy a pack of six for what one pair of yours costs. Now, you get packs of women's underwear but they're still much more expensive than men's underwear. Same brands; Hanes, Jockey etc.

You don't even want to know what we pay for bras.

Go into the men's dept for a basic short sleeve Hane's tee shirt (Boscov's) $4.99 go into the women's dept same tee shirt 12.99.

It's crazy.

Some things are a little more comparable like work clothes & good shoes.

even for the very same thing...like a t-shirt. Men's clothes are often made to last longer, and are cheaper, so I often shop men's clothes. I just wish they had more feminine styles, patterns and colors.
