So the Syrian election will be a sham because only those in areas controlled by

the currently 'elected' President are voting?
Well well well didn't something similar just happen in Ukraine except that 'that president' was part of a coup?

anyone who tries to challenge the Ba'ath party's power, because he's a fucking dictator. He came to power because he inherited his title of dictator for life from his dad.

As opposed to the president of Ukraine, who was elected peacefully by majority vote.

which there is zero chance that the dictator's government will conduct a free and fair election.

Actually Assad's "presidency" is the result of a coup. His father seized power by coup in 1970 and ruled til his death in 2000. In true royal tradition his son assumed power upon the death of the father. Bashar is a generation removed from the (actual) military coup but he would not be in power if it were not for the coup.
