My boss had an idea about Gitmo, it's either crazy or brilliant. Gitmo is in Cuba, right?

There are about seventy individuals who were on the okay list to be released anywhere. The not dangerous, not Al-Quida, not bad guys or at least "mostly harmless" So give each of them $100 in small bills, open the front gate and let 'em out. Quatar, or Saudi Arabia or someone will send a plane just for the propaganda value. Heck, Raul Castro might let them stay. If they don't hitch a ride in three days, let them back in.

I'm not saying just dump them, but call Cuba and say, "Hey, we have 70 tourists with American dollars.Want visitors? P.S We checked, none of them is guilty of anything, and they've all had a recent medical checkup."

aka the US shooting itself in the foot until the UN bailed them out. That remains a huge joke in Cuba to this day.

The Mariel boatlift was a mass emigration of Cubans who departed from Cuba's Mariel Harbor for the United States between April 15 and October 31, 1980.

The event was precipitated by a sharp downturn in the Cuban economy which led to internal tensions on the island and a bid by up to 10,000 Cubans to gain asylum in the Peruvian embassy.

The Cuban government subsequently announced that anyone who wanted to leave could do so, and an exodus by boat started shortly afterward. The exodus was organized by Cuban-Americans with the agreement of Cuban president Fidel Castro. The exodus started to have negative political implications for U.S. president Jimmy Carter when it was discovered that a number of the exiles had been released from Cuban jails and mental health facilities. The Mariel boatlift was ended by mutual agreement between the two governments involved in October 1980. By that point, as many as 125,000 Cubans had made the journey to Florida.

Last I looked, relations between U.S. and Cuba were warming. Great plan.

And those that are found guilty should serve their sentences in the US.

Those that we do not have the evidence to charge should be released immediately and provided with transport to any country they wish and that will accept them.

We should then close Guantanamo.
