http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/05/missing-man-found-dead-dog-nearby/10002009/CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. An elderly man who vanished nearly a month ago was found dead, 23 days after he went for an afternoon drive with his beloved pet Maltese dog.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies found the body of Jimmy Wilkerson, 80, on Tuesday, three weeks and two days after he went missing. Wilkerson's dog, BeBe, was found not far from his body.
"The two of them were inseparable," said Wilkerson's son-in-law, Smitty Smith. "Wherever you saw one, you saw the other."
BeBe suffered broken ribs and bite marks show that he fought hard to live, possibly attacked by a coyote or bobcat.
"I love that dog," said Meta Smith, Wilkerson's daughter. "We're going to take care of BeBe, like he took care of my father."

(55,894 posts)that's just surrealist humor.
I'm pretty sure my cat would stay with me as long as there was something edible left on my cadaver

(4,056 posts)That cat saved a little boy from getting even more beat up. However, we cat lovers know that was a rare occasion! My little Bombay would be taking bites outta me when I was still warm!
Little BeBe made me cry! Proof again that animals are better than we are.

(15,220 posts)Glad that the gentleman's family made sure to comment that they'd take care of the dog!
My sympathies to them on the loss of their human loved one, and my thanks and gratitude to them for caring for BeBe.

(1,269 posts)Was over a friend's house the other day. She had taken care of her uncle until he died. He apparently had this little dog that he loved and cared for deeply. She was having trouble out of the dog because he would take to yowling and howling every so often.
So he does this when I am over there -he's distraught. I suggested maybe he wanted out. So out to the porch he goes. He calms down immediately. And then I see it. The old man sits on the old chair in the corner with the dog in his lap, didn't he? I ask her. Yeah, she says, all day long. The dog, I tell her, is howling when he comes to visit and likes to go out where they were together. She is part Indian, and sees things too, had a visit from Unc once already, and agrees this is probably what's happening.
Dogs are great. I love my dogs, past, present, and future. I just love them.
