The Soldiers Creed

Soldier’s Creed

I am an American Soldier.

I am a warrior and a member of a team.

I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.

I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

Our creed was the oath we took in the beginning.
We swore to defend the Constitution and the country and obey lawful orders and be suject to the UCMJ.
I don't remember the words

They have to memorize it. In basic my grandson had to recite it perfectly or they don't eat.
I have it on my wall, for him.

They were a direct result of returning Vietnam Vets and mainly the POW's. During interviews with Military Psychologist POW's were asked what helped them hold on. Out of those experiences and information the Creeds were developed to help bolster Troop Unity and Unit effectiveness as well as bonding the Service member to the Military. In that way they were never truly alone, even as a prisoner. Thus allowing them to perform their duties in the face adversity.

Ironic NO?
