Just short of its one-year anniversary.
She sent out a tweet today announcing the cancellation.

(8,421 posts)Odd time, sort of by itself. I only caught her show by accident. I do enjoy her commentary on other shows.

(641 posts)She was the last vestige of watchable weekend TV before the dreaded "doo to ma-churr subject matter............"

(4,919 posts)...And, I never thought to DVR, because she's covering the same stuff that every other MSNBC show covers.
MSNBC is budget cutting and reducing every show to the same formula...
1. Open with a montage of clips from other MSNBC earlier in the day;
2. A block with explainer narrative plus a guest to corroborate.
I really miss Alex Wagner's former 12pm format with her facilitating a 4 person panel. But, I'm mostly disappointed with what Rachel Maddow's show has become.. She explains things with so much repetition and extra adverbs that it seems patronizing or that she's trying to simply fill airtime. Then she'll have a guest on and ask, "Am I right, or am I right?"
Anyways, hopefully Karen will add her voice to other shows from now on.

(24,729 posts)Though I love her and love her storytelling during the 1st segment.
I wonder if anyone has talked to her about that stylistic glitch of repeating herself a little too much. I think it's just a habit, or something she does intentionally for effect.

(4,919 posts)...You have to say something three times before your listeners will remember. I think Rachel takes that rule of thumb literally.
Indeed, believe I've heard her mention that axiom in an interview... She considers herself a good explainer, and thinks Steve Kornacki is one, too. He has her same style.
As a contrast, when Chris Hayes hosted UP and when Alex Wagner had her noon panel show... They both queued up a topic briefly and then handed things over to their guests to explain.. They were both great facilitators. But alas, their formats have changed to the Rachel formula that MSNBC seems to like... I think because it's inexpensive to produce a show where the host does all the talking.
A political science professor at Columbia recently said to me that she used to love Rachel, but thinks she phones it in nowadays. I feel the same way. Also, I miss Kent's segments.

(8,377 posts)The reality is that there is a narrow band of stories/viewpoints she can get away with. NBC wants her to draw a progressive audience, but they don't want her "to go there" on most of the issues really important to progressives.
It isn't easy to book guests for her program because talking-headswille has turned into a symphony of softballs. Nobody wants to face real questions. So there she is, having to fill an hour making mostly milquetoast points on only the issues approved by NBC.
This has to be a grind. There comes a point when it is not worth doing. My guess is she is getting close to that point.

(24,396 posts)The repetition and the "come at it from every angle before the punch line" style is tedious. Please, Rachel, just stop it! We all know the punch line 10 minutes before you get there.
I thinks she's getting lazy. Falling into a comfortable rut. The same can be said about her wardrobe which never, ever changes. OK, the gray suit is neutral. We get it. But, why??
And, her set needs a redesign, badly. The color scheme looks like an Australian's nightmare.

(23,661 posts)I watch her for the content, which is usually excellent, but imho, she needs some help in the presentation arts. I also cringe when she says, every single show, "Welcome (person she's interviewing), did I get that right?' To me that sounds so phony. Almost like she wants the person to pat her on the head and tell her she's the smartest person in the room.

(1,596 posts)One of the few MSNBC programs that I can watch.
They should put her on 4pm weekdays. That has been a black hole of stupid ever since Bashir left.

(45,251 posts)programming that has branded their weekends. And, also from the fact that working people have to get things done on the weekends, whereas they can watch weekday evenings.

(10,893 posts)only reason to watch MSNBC on weekends. It's a shame because her show is one of my favorites on that channel, behind Ed's and Rev. Al's. That time slot wasn't that great, though, since most people are probably out and about on weekend afternoons and nights instead of being at the crib watching TV. I'm just surprised that her show got cancelled before MHP's and SK's shows due to the fact that the latter two air early in the morning on weekends.
