Moving with the times apparently means "selling ad space" and "relying on lots of name dropping in place of comedy" and "replacing humor with conservative-tinged mean-spiritedness (Monroe and anything modern Duck Edwing does)" and "substituting satire for gross-out crutches" (Kuper's take on Spy vs Spy).

It's just not the same magazine we all grew up reading in the 60s/70s/early 80s.

When I was a kid Cracked was a lock step rip off of Mad, which I remember as far back as 1958 and adored through the 60's.

But now they come up with some magnificent well researched informative content that I find impressive. They do well researched "everything you know is wrong" kinds of material all the time these days and I applaud them,

They really skewered Sacred Cows back then and Mad is where I learned of the John Birch Society and Ayn Rand.

Grew up with Time, too. Family got it for decades. I let it go maybe in the early 90's? I always saw Mad as a magazine that just made fun of whatever was going on in popular culture without a terribly well defined political philosophy behind it (unless having no philosophy/allegiance is their philosophy).

I don't read it anymore regardless. Haven't bought one of their mags since I was in elementary school.

When I happen to see it on the rack, I'm always surprised that it still exists.
