presently I have grandkids visiting so we took them miniature golfing last night and then for pizza. while riding back from the golf course a guy in a pick up truck did some amazingly bad driving and I mentioned to my grandson that I wouldn't say anything to a driver like that because one never knows who is carrying a gun and might take offense to any remarks.
My grandson said, "Yeah, just today I was riding with unkle ....... and found a gun under the front seat of his car. Unkle....said "holy shit, I forgot that was there. Don't mess with it, I don't know if it's loaded or not".
At that point I let my grand know how I feel about all this wild west mentality and that if everyone has to carry a gun to feel safe, America has a real big problem that has to be dealt with.
The quiet was so thick you could have cut it with a chain saw.
As background, you'll have to know that his other granddad is a LEO and his dad is career military. He, the kid, will be going into the war machine shortly due to their influence and the idea that he can do twenty years and get out with a great pension and bennies. I didn't have the heart to tell him how the current crop of vets are getting screwed.

(297,188 posts)to have a great pension and bennies when they get out of the military. That would be awful to go in for that purpose and get shafted when they're ready to retire.
The Dems want to make sure it's there for the Vets but the repubs are saying nothing but "NO."

he wanted to get married right after graduation to the first girl he ever dated. He was talked out of that. Geez, he's 18 and doesn't even have a drivers license yet.
My main point in my post however was about the idea of having guns lost in the car your driving.

(297,188 posts)turned out okay this time. With all the stories out there about kids and grownups getting killed accidently by guns.. I would think gun owners would be way more responsible.

(124 posts)...some years ago the local Army recruiter called up wanting to speak to my son who was 17 at the time. He said he was going to sign my son up. I asked him if him how he was going to do that, seeing as he was not 18. He told me that I was going to sign my consent. That's when I asked him his rank, then told him in so many choice words that he had a lot of nerve telling someone, who if on active duty would outrank him, what to they would do. I further told him that he was not to contact my son again.
Instead of engaging in two unnecessary wars, my son went on to a high paying professional career in the IT field.
