General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy concerns about Hillary and 2016
Some want 2016 to basicly be a cornation for Hillary.I have serious concerns about her especilly with those things Obama can be legitimetly critized about
1:Corporate and wall street
Many believe Obama Is too corporate friendly and soft on Wall street abuses like what got us into the 2008 crisis. And do people really
think Hillary will be tougher on them than Obama? The Clintons are even more connected to wall Street than Obama.
The Clintons have never seen a free trade deal they didn't like.I belong to group who feel free trade deals are killing jobs In US.If you
opposse the TPP you want someone even more free trade? That's NAFTA on steroids and who signed nafta Into Law? Bill Clinton
As someone who opposes the keystone pipeline if It was up to Hillary why do I fear she would approve it
2:hawkish
let's put Iraq In past here.Hillary was one of most hawkish members of Obama's administration on Afghanstain. She supported more troops. If you are among those who want out of afghanstain do you really think she would be to Obama's left on Afghanstain. He's basicly comitted us to be there indefently and we should have beguin withdrawing after Bin laden was killed.
She supported strikes on Syria.
I am firm believer we need to stop getting involved In Middle east conflicts
3 ealing with republicans
many agree here that Obama Is too willing to work with republicans but have people forgotten the trianglution of the Clintons.Or
Hillary's comments critizing those who call Bi-partisan a dirty word.yeah that's what we need more bi-partisan crap that could
endanger things like SS,SSI,Medicaid, and medicare.Already in name of bi-partisan 8 billion have been cut from food stamps. There
are plenty of people out there that could use food stamps
4:Elections
The clintons never helped other Dems much. Even now a key super-pac aligned with them Is going to sit out 2014 and Bill Clinton
continues to only campagin for dems who supported hillary over obama In 2008
2014 may turn into a clobbing for Democrats and come January 2015 Obama will be fighting ivestigations ,Impeachment threats, and senate votes to repeal Obamacare. Not to mention republicans using budget to try to cut SS,Medicare, and medicaid.
We may need a democrat for 2016 who will lead charge against republicans In congress as well as the teapartyer who wins nomination. Can that trully be Hillary
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)we've heard it all before. YET she is polling at 69% among Democrats while the rest of the field including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are in single digits (with the exception of Joe Biden who polls at 11%). As much as the Republican party hates that woman and has tried for over 20 yrs to smear her....nothing has worked...and you guys think YOU will be able to do it?
FAT chance!

Nobody Is trying to address concerns it's just anyone who doesn't embrace her Is trying to smear her?
And if people have critism about obama then do they really think She will be better than him.

(13,141 posts)I think both Clintons have learned a great deal since they
were in the White House. I do not think they would take
us further backward. They can not, at this point, ignore
or overlook the gap between rich and poor, disappeared
middle class, unemployed, oily poisons, global warming,
Human rights especially rights of women..
I can't think of anybody else who has the cojones as well
as the capability to keep pushing forward in all these
areas. Hillary, I think, won't waste time on bipartisanship
with these idiots; she knows them well and has their
numbers, my opinion.

(549 posts)I remember HRC polling well ahead of President Barack Obama in 2006. When it comes down to it, the voters don't want her to be the President. She doesn't have what it takes.
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)Yes 69% of Democrats think she has what it takes....AND she knows how to handle the Republicans...unlike PBO who thought he was dealing with honest brokers at first! Hillary is seasoned on that regard
Michigander_Life
(549 posts)Hillary sounds better in the abstract. Just like she did in 2006, she seems strong... But when she actually has to stand next to other candidates, she loses her appeal.
She has the personality of a wet towel. She makes Al Gore seem engaging. She makes
W look like an accomplished orator. She is a Clinton. Simply put, she has too many flaws that will make her unelectable to the presidency (again).
Our best bet is to go all-in with a new, fresh, truly progressive candidate.
VanillaRhapsody

Michigander_Life

(21,115 posts)I on the other hand have polls showing 69% of Democrats support her!...THAT is evidence...THAT is reality...THAT is logical.
You are being none of the above...
Michigander_Life
(549 posts)The logic and reality is that Hillary is a terrible candidate. She was leading in 2006, too. Remember that?
But then people actually got to see her in debates and in the campaign and she sunk like a stone. Because she's a terrible candidate.
The only differences between 2006 and 2014 are Hillary is 8 years older and has 8 more years of baggage. Oh, and she's already a proven loser.
We need a NEW, FRESH and PROGRESSIVE democratic presidential candidate. Hillary is none of those things.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)human appeal, is a lot more courageous when it comes to standing up for ordinary Americans and does not have all the Clinton baggage.
Did you ever, finally, read Elizabeth Warren's book, A Fighting Chance. If you do, you will understand what a strong, courageous woman she is. She did not marry her way into the White House. She does not have the support of Wall Street. She will have the support of Main Street if she runs.
Hillary wins the polls because she represents a past that Americans know and remember fondly.
But Elizabeth Warren represents the way to a future with new ideas. The two of them are the same age, but Elizabeth Warren has the great ideas.
Hillary is too much of a war hawk, owes to much to Wall Street and has a ton of luggage tied to her back.
The repeal of Glass-Steagall, the signing of NAFTA and the lost jobs that caused, and the list goes on and on. Hillary is polling well now, but if we get behind Elizabeth Warren (and unions for one are), she could win big in 2016. Elizabeth Warren is speaking to the issues and cares of the voting majority of our time. No other potential candidate is doing that with the credibility that Elizabeth Warren has.

If you assume that those who support HRC are rightists like she is, then you've got your work cut out for you if you mean to prove it rather than just assume it.
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)and lots of them?
Thats funny since 69% of Democrats support Hillary Clinton!
31% of Democrats and some Anarchists is not a majority!
sulphurdunn
(6,891 posts)of democrats support HRC, you better hope that the leftists and anarchist don't decide to sit out the next election, and so should she, which probably accounts for her recent populist rhetoric. She can't win the election without them, and the left is still smarting from having backed Obama. She's got a pitch to make that would daunt Ron Popeil. Maybe, the republicans will help her by running Jeb Bush. Who knows?

(146,288 posts)Once that's over, I'll begin thinking about 2016. That seems to me to be the best approach. If we could gain a majority in the House and increase our Senate majority, things would change rather quickly, I think, and President Obama would be busy signing good bills.
Hillary? Well, she's very likely to run in 2016, I think, and it will be very difficult for any other candidate to get the Democratic nomination if she does. But, I'm going to think about that beginning the third week of November this year. There's an election to deal with.

(11,197 posts)The right despises her to a fever pitch and will turn out in droves to defeat her, while ironically from a political/ideological standpoint they should like her. Conversely, the left dislikes her because they view her presidency as a third term of the Obama administration which operated far to the right of campaign positions. Given the realities of the day, her projected vote margins are quite over-hyped by the media IMO. She's part of the past, and I think America is on the brink of leaving the past behind.

Pew Research Polling, Spring 2008:
Of all American voters, only 34 to 36% of the electorate actually considered themselves Democrats.
While a mere 22 to 24% considered themselves Republicans.
How do we evaluate this poll in terms of its accuracy? Well, because that following November, 62.5 % of this electorate went to t he polls, a twenty year HIGH of the voters' participation in an election. And because people who were not aligned with the Democrats, and because the Democratic voters themselves voted for Barack Obama, he won the presidency.
Fast forward to late Autumn 2013:
Different polling company (possibly Gallup.) BU Wait for it:
Same exact breakdown.
In other words, if only 69% of the 36% of the electorate want Hillary she can't win, unless most people stay home.
