Bless the officers and their families. And we wonder here why the police continue to push for more armor, more hardened vehicles and more weapons. The militarization of law enforcement is a direct result of the militarization of the populous.

We have roving bands of thugs with armor and assault rifles. I do not blame the police one bit for militarization.

But what happened today does not justify the militarization of the police...because the populous isn't militarized, and those that you think are militarized are nothing more then a group of idiots that want to play soldier...

Most of those roving thugs can be found in most of the Southern US, up in places like Idaho, Montana, the Dakotas, Nevada, Arizona...which means law enforcement shouldn't have a problem finding them, just look for the idiots with weapons strapped across their backs.

And some of those thugs also wear badges and carry guns...especially when they won't enforce gun laws that are on the books because they believe it violates the 2nd Amendment!!!

I agree that the armed populace isn't great either, but they are not the reason the police have militarized. They're the excuse, but not the reason.

the entire area is pretty much the standard civilian extension of the military complex - apartments, stores, etc. It is also a fairly economically depressed area of town (or course, pretty much all of LV is in the toilet economically right now, except the Strip).

I have no idea if that will play into this scenario; they might have chosen their targets because they made a habit of lunching at Cici's. Time will tell.

This on the tail of the shooting at the college in Seatlle, which was on the tail of the shooting in Canada, which was on the tail of the shooting in Santa Barbara...

It's more like horrible, outrageous, expected and preventable. This country has learned "nothing:" from all the recent mass shootings. The NRA owns our politicians and the system. People in Washington are cowardly. The blood money in our system paid by the gun manufacturers to grease the cowardly hands of Washington and buy gun propaganda ads is appalling and directly responsible for the carnage. Don't be surprised to wake up tomorrow or the next day and see a report of another mass shooting because anyone with two brain cells to rub together should be able to make "sense" of "why" these abhorrent atrocities are happening in our own back yards.
I just pray it doesn't happen to me, my family close friends or any of my DU friends who are reading this.

Something is deadly broken and it needs to be addressed now.
