The ego of the disgruntled must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of students

So now it's every couple of days that we have reminders of the price the country has determined it must pay for the freedom to indulge its lunatic attraction to its firearms.

The shooting happened at about 8 a.m...at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, about 12 miles east of Portland, said Sue Strickland of the Troutdale Police Department. A semiautomatic weapon was involved in the shooting, she said.

Well, that's certainly a shocking detail.

Enough never will be enough. It's exhausting at this point. We are acclimating ourselves to the public slaughter of our fellow citizens, over and over again, because our political system has become so riven with well-financed cowardice that it can't do anything about it, and therefore, we must have a country in which being asked not to bring your combat weapon into a fast-food joint is a blow to liberty tantamount to the Writs Of Assistance, and we must have a country in which we accessorize deadly weapons or else we will forget our birthright as free citizens. ("The ego of the disgruntled must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of students.&quot That's probably good because, without a fresh effusion of blood now and then, we might forget how free we really are.
