Identify an "enemy", and then encourage angry disempowered people to attack them with impunity, all for the sake of "saving the country" from those who would otherwise destroy it. Yes, the players have changed but the tactics and mindsets are very, very similar.

The latter, they would have convincing arguments, the former, they just can't pin down why they like the fascist rhetoric but why they aren't fascist in nature. They waffle and ramble on. Just responded to someone who rambled for two paragraphs in one who couldn't figure out why they advocated the "populism" of Brat.

I only considered populism to do with the welfare of the common people. Not with libertarian populism which has to do with the welfare of the elite over the common people. So yeah right wing populism is an oxymoron.

The platitudes are definitely populist but the "solutions" are fascist authoritarianism.
