American intervention in the morass of the Middle East makes about as much sense as China sending troops to Europe to quell violence between Catholics and Protestants at the time of the Reformation. Sometimes people need to "grow" out of their religious-fueled stupidity, and sometimes it takes many generations to have that happen. It certainly wasn't helped by losing a half dozen American lives a week playing kindergarten cop, babysitting Iraqis who were just keeping their powder dry until we were gone.
