http://www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_20276772/audio-oscar-carrillos-911-call-pasadena-police-mcdade?source=pkgParts of the tape are "blacked out."
Specifically where Carrillo is mentioning his place of employment (he has
stated he was familiar with them from there) and his phone number.
He is being held as an illegal immigrant on top of everything.
Not the sharpest tool in the box, is he?

Has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter:

He changed his story several times on the 911 call...
But did give the descriptions that resulted in the shooting.
What a waste...

(17,162 posts)Many details about the incident in this article.
I have a feeling more will come out as the investigation progresses.
It is such a damned shame; all of it.
FUBAR all around.
The cops screwed up, Carrillo screwed up and if there is a video of the robbery,
so did the two young men.
Such a tragedy for all involved.

This is another tragic story based on a false 911 call.

(27,711 posts)...and find this to be somewhat shocking. After a long lull, there definitely seems to have been a rise in crime/gang violence in Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley. They did rob the guy, but he lied to the police and it cost a young man his life. It is a tragedy for his family and friends. I really wish attempt would be made by the police to train to not shoot until the target hits the ground, but I know that will never happen.
You can get an idea at some the community dynamics at play here from this coverage: http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_20296696/kendrec-mcdade-shooting-draws-comparisons-trayvon-martin?source=rss
There is a long history of racial/community disharmony in Pasadena.

(17,162 posts)It has become a serious problem in the entire area of SoCal.
The good side of our cultural melting pot is the great food
each culture brings, music, art etc...
The bad side is that so many of the diverse populations hate
the others.
Are you still in SoCal?
Would this mean I would get to meet ya if we ever get another DU
meet up organized?
We haven't had a local DU meet up in a long time!
I tried to pull one together a while back, but then had medical problems
and didn't see it through-
We have SO many great LA area DUers, I would love to see
each and everyone, as well as the new ones, again!

I agree it's area-wide, but in Pasadena is simmers like a long animosity, instead of a new flame. I also don't think it's hatred so much as fear and misunderstanding
Back in the Motherland since last Fall...DU meetup at the beach!

(17,162 posts)I don't think we have ever done that!
It is past time...

(17,162 posts)I worked in a local high school- I couldn't believe what I saw
as far as different cultures HATING, yes HATING, other cultures.
I used to call lunch get togethers to try and discuss the irrationality
of it with the kids... told them the history of the civil rights movement
and how their hating one another set the country back 50 years.
Didn't turn out so well- two of the students decided to protest the
district decision to assign areas to different cultures at lunch.
A black student and a latino student decided to protest by sitting
in the "Armenian" lunch area- the Armenians, the parents included,
chased the Latino boy down after school and nearly beat him to death.
His mother moved them out in the middle of the night, to this day,
I don't know what became of him.
The black student was transferred to another school for his protection.
It is seriously fucked up- the race wars in LA.
But what I observed, and this is the really scary part-
These kids, like KKK kids, are taught this hatred for one another
by their PARENTS.
Disgusting IMO.

(27,711 posts)...I never saw anything that bad, but I wouldn't deny that such a thing would happen. I'm honestly surprised the district tried to intervene like that.
