Senator Schumer: The health insurance mandate idea came from Republicans and the Heritage Foundation

Meet the Press transcript for April 1, 2012

Excerpt:

SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY):

Well, I'd say, first, that of course, you take constitutional questions seriously. But at the time and still today, most constitutional scholars say it'll be upheld. Harvie Wilkerson***(as spoken)***he's the dean of the very conservative judges on the Courts of Appeals. He said it would be a heavy lift to overturn this law. And let's look at the context. The idea of a mandate came from Republicans. It was--it was proposed by the Heritage Foundation in 1993, people like Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole and that, you know, supported it in those days. In 2009, Mitt Romney, the Republican nom, you know, in the middle of the healthcare debate, the likely Republican nominee, said that the mandate was what should be used as opposed to Democrats who were then arguing for expanding Medicare.

"Senator Schumer: The health insurance mandate idea came from Republicans and the Heritage Foundation"

...works. I mean, the Courts should side with Republicans on the mandate.

Just think what this country could do with $300 billion extra every year.
Why we could start a whole new war in the Middle East with money like that. Maybe TWO new wars, if we pick the right opponents!

I'm sure the Democrats who are still diligently championing this crap even today can just blame the Republicans now that the idea has been exposed for the b.s. it is.

Many refused to believe me, perhaps they will believe a politician.

"The idea of a mandate came from Republicans. It was--it was proposed by the Heritage Foundation in 1993, people like Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole"

Passing it under the Democratic banner means our party will take the blame of a horrible piece of legislation that will profit some and harm many many more.

It is a win, win for the GOP, get one of their sweetheart corporate laws passed, and let the Democrats take the blame while they pretend to oppose it. A brilliant little false flag operation our Republican infiltrators within the Democratic party have pulled off.

I call them (R)epublicans in (D)rag, but I am a bit rude....

I thought it was a pretty good idea. Which is why I am now confused. I didn't think it was a great idea, but I liked some of the provisions. I even wrote a piece explaining how it was not unconsitutional, which it really isn't maybe it should be, but that is another debate. In anycase, I am going to have to say we should go all out and make the debate about The Affordable Health Care Act(an Orwellian title if there ever was one) vs Universal Health Care.
